Rust, Jr. passed away on Friday, April 23, 2010 at the age of 73. A native of New Orleans , a lifelong resident of Lacombe. Son of the late Charles P. Rust, Sr. and Mary Christ Rust. Brother of Mary A. Rust Strength and the late James J. Rust. He is survived by two nephews, Benjamin C. Rust and Christopher J. Rust, and a niece Lee Ann Rust Cosgrove. Bubbie was a former member of Living Word Assembly in Lacombe and a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Lacombe. He will be remembered for his friendly nature and ever-present smile. Mary was born on October 2, 1920 in Zwolle, Louisiana to J. M. and Florence Moore. She grew up in DeRidder, Louisiana and graduated from Lake Charles High School. She attended Louisiana State University where she was Vice President of Chi Omega sorority and sponsor for the ROTC Company I. She met her husband, Shelley "Mitch" Carter at LSU. They married in 1952 and moved to Shreveport, Louisiana. They were active members of the community and of First Presbyterian Church; she was President and a lifetime member of PTA, the Junior League and Cotillion. They raised their family in Shreveport and enjoyed water skiing and boating on Lake Bistineau with family and friends. In 1997 they moved to Mandeville where they became active members and served as Elders at New Covenant Presbyterian Church. Mary also served as President of the Presbyterian Women. They were also very active with marching bands, plays and school activities with their grand children. Mary is survived by her son Larry Carter and wife Debbie of Austin, Texas, and her daughter Deenie Reese and husband Dan of Madisonville, Louisiana. She is also survived by grandchildren Chris Carlson, Michael Carter, Shelley Reese and Carter Reese. Her son Tucker died in 2005 and her beloved Mitch died in 2007. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to a memorial worship service on Tuesday, May 4th at 3:00 pm at New Covenant Presbyterian Church, 4375 Hwy 22, Mandeville, LA 70471. Friends are invited to join the family after the service at a reception at the church. A private graveside service was held in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens. He was born December 9, 1921 in Seattle, Washington, and he resided in New Orleans for 60 years before moving to Mandeville in 2007. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Shirley Brue Braiwick and their five children: Melanie Saunders and her husband Larry of Mandeville, LA., Theresa (Tery) Scalco and her husband Steven of Metairie, Robert Braiwick, Jr. and his wife Cindy of Metairie, Arthur Braiwick and John Christian Braiwick of Mandeville, LA. He was 83. The cause of death was due to complications from a stroke. Mr. Allgood was born on May 15, 1926 in Voth, TX and was raised in Lake Charles, LA. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and enrolled at LSU following the war. Mr. Allgood received a bachelor's degree in education from LSU and was a proud member of the 1950 LSU National Championship Boxing Team. After graduating from LSU, he married Bettie Jane Meador of Clarksville, Indiana and went on to teach and coach boxing at Plaquemine High School. In 1956, he went to work in the oilfield services industry, and eventually rose to become President of Tidewater Marine Inc in New Orleans, LA. He retired from Tidewater Marine in 1982. Mr. Allgood was a strong supporter of LSU and served as Chairman of the board of directors of the LSU Foundation. He also was an avid golfer and served as President of Metairie Country Club. Mr. Allgood is survived by his spouse, Joyce Deutchmann Allgood; son, Sam Allgood III of Baton Rouge; daughters, Lynette Allgood McMillen of Folsom, Holly Allgood Wolfert of Greensboro, GA and Becky Allgood Swindell of Dallas, TX ; sister, Mary Janet Allgood Hartman; and, 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Nathan was born June 15th, 1998 in Baton Rouge, LA. He attended Pine View Middle School. He loved to play outdoors, whether it was baseball, basketball, 4H, with the animals on his grandparents' farm, attending animal auctions, vacationing with his family or fishing at the camp with his Stepfather and Grandfather. He loved his family dearly, especially his little sister Kate. He loved spending time with his best friends, Kelly McCormick and Cousins Alex and Kori. He loved doing arts and crafts with his Grandma Jean and Grandpa Charles. He was the light of our lives, a true angel among us. His soul was pure and his love was never ending. He taught us how to love and truly cherish those around us. He had the most beautiful big blue eyes and freckled cheeks. He will be missed greatly and our hearts will forever be changed by his glorious presence. Fielding Funeral Home, Covington, La. JOHNSON, NANCY BEERS (December 6, 1939 - May 6, 2010) After an extended illness, Nancy Beers Johnson died Thursday, May 6th, 2010, in New Orleans, Louisiana. Nancy was born in Selma, Alabama, December 6, 1939. Growing up on the family farm in Tyler, Nancy was able to enjoy horses and her many other animals during her entire childhood. She attended Albert G. Parrish High School, graduating with honors in 1957. She enrolled in Sophia Newcomb College in New Orleans, Louisiana and later transferred to the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. She graduated with a BS Degree in Education in 1962. Nancy was married to Dr. Ralph E. Griffin and lived in Melbourne, Florida for a number of years. She later taught English, riding, and jumping at Golden Hills Academy in Ocala, Florida. Nancy later married Harry L. Johnson and after relocating back to Dallas County, she received her Master's Degree from West Alabama University. She then taught English in Selma, Alabama for a number of years at Morgan Academy. Reentering the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, she was awarded her Doctorate Degree in Education in 1982. Making New Orleans her home once again, Nancy taught English at the University of New Orleans for a number of years and later at smaller junior colleges. During her years of teaching she also edited for the national English publication, College English, and co-edited two English textbooks. Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Robert Beers, junior, her two daughters, Mary Clayton Griffin and Elizabeth Lynn Johnson. She is survived by her daughter Avery Griffin Schuette (Bill), two brothers, George Robert Beers III (Joy), William Russell Beers, nephews George Robert Beers IV (Bert), Randall Clay Beers (Alicia), and a niece Rebecca Ashley Beers. Suzanne was born on March 30, 1917, to Capt. and Mrs. George W. Doane at Fort Totten, N.Y. She moved with her mother, Susan Aileen Schmetzer Doane, and sister, Margaret Kloman Doane "Peggy" to Phoebus, Va., where the sisters attended the Bryant Kindergarten, Phoebus Elementary and Junior High schools and were graduated from Hampton High School in 1933. Suzanne attended William and Mary College in 1934-1936 and was a member of the Kappa Delta sorority. She was married to Lt. Charles W. Hill on Sept. 8, 1936, at the Chapel of the Centurion in Fort Monroe, Va. She then accompanied her husband to Fort Mills, Corregidor, the Philippines, where Suzanne taught French and Latin at Fort Mills High School, and where their son, Charlie Jr. was born in 1938. The family returned to Fort Monroe in 1939. Her husband served in the South Pacific during World War II and Suzanne taught at the Fort Monroe preschool. A second son, John Robert, was born at Fort Bliss, Texas, in 1945 and a daughter, Susan Mary, was born at Fort Scott, The Presidio, Calif., in 1947. After World War II, Charles was ordered to Vanderbilt University where he received his Ph.D. in psychology in 1952. Suzanne returned to school at that time and received her Ph.D. in psychology at the George Washington University in 1963. She taught at Howard and The George Washington Universities in Washington, D.C. and at the University of New Orleans, retiring as Professor Emeritus in 1987. She then developed a psychological clinic for young children and their parents in Covington. During Charles' two tours in the Pentagon, Suzanne lived in Alexandria, Va., and McLean, Va. In between the Pentagon duty the Hills lived in Frankfurt, Germany. During Charles' 26-year Army career they traveled the world, enjoying all the new and exotic experiences, and they continued such travels into retirement. She was instrumental in founding the Covington Head Start Program and the Regina Coeli Family Service Center in Covington. She was active in community service organizations. Known to family and friends as Tutu, she was much loved for her fairness, kindness, intelligence, lovely smile, love of music, and sense of joy and of the ridiculous. Suzanne moved with her husband to Patriots Colony in Williamsburg in 1996. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years (April 2003) and her sister, Peggy (August 2009). She is survived by her sons Charles Jr. (Nelle) of New Orleans, John (partner Quenda Shults) of Bisbee, Ariz., and daughter, Susan Hill (husband Neelon Crawford) of Crowheart, Wyo.; one grandson, Gavin Kanoa Hill (Anna); two granddaughters, Heather Maile Hill Boyter (Russell) and Amelia Hill Shults (partner Austin Rodgers); two great-grandsons, Cameron and Zachary Boyter; great-grandchildren Alena Quiroz, Christina Pullan, and A.J. He was the beloved husband of Cindy Gaye Higgins, his treasured wife for the past 20 years, and father of Carson Elise Higgins Broom, his most precious daughter who he loved so much. He is also survived by his stepdaughter, Jessa Barthels, her husband, Erik, and their son, Miles, and his stepson, Zachary Queyrouze. Johnny is greatly mourned by his parents, John Charles Broom and Elizabeth Sellars Broom. Johnny, their only son, was always there for them. He will be greatly missed by his four sisters to whom he was the big brother although he was younger than two of them. He was their peacemaker, friend, confidante, and technological advisor-if Johnny were there, everything was going to be okay. Rita was a native of New Orleans and a resident of Slidell, Louisiana for the past 21 years. She retired from the New Orleans Public School System on June 1, 1979, spending her years of service as a secretary at Nichols and Abramson High Schools. As a dedicated Presbyterian, she was a life long member of Claiborne Avenue Presbyterian Church in New Orleans and later as a member of First Presbyterian Church in Slidell. Rita spent many hours in community service as a volunteer with the Slidell Memorial Hospital Hospice Program, attended XYZ and Sunshine Club functions. Beloved wife of the late Joseph S. Manale, daughter of the late Teresea Kuntz Wire and the late Clarence G. Wire, sister of the late Alfred E. Wire. An avid antique car collector and enthusiast, Jim took the most pleasure in driving his perennial prize winning 1930 Packard while always looking to restore a new challenge. He was also a member of the Horseless Carriage Club and the Northlake A's, and other antique car organizations. Jim was always the perfect gentleman possessing a wonderful sense of humor and a remarkably positive attitude. He loved the theater, fine restaurants, spending time with friends and sharing engaging stories of the colorful history of his New Orleans with eagerly awaiting family. She will be greatly missed by her soul mate, August (Chip) Mangiaracina with whom she shared 44 years of marriage. She was a native of New Orleans and a resident of Slidell since 1979. Daughter of Herbert C. Kesler and the late Mary A. Varner Kesler. Mother of the late Michelle (Missy) Cummings and Michael Mangiaracina. Grandmother of Christina Cummings and Stephen Mangiaracina and sister of Mark Kesler, Sr. and Dr. Glen Kesler. Marcia's journey through life took her from CYO softball as a teenager to starting her work career with Boeing at Michoud in New Orleans. She then married Chip and they moved to Huntsville, Alabama. Shortly after, she moved back to New Orleans where her daughter Michelle was born. Then on to Houston, TX, with Chip, where son Michael was born and she spent the next ten years raising children, playing sports, enjoying friends and attending Alvin junior college where she received an Associate in Computer Science degree and working for McDonnell Douglas. Life then brought her to Slidell, LA and working for Lockheed Martin as a Database Administrator until she left to be a full time housewife, avid bowler and loving mother to her family and the puppies she loved so dearly. She also had a great fondness for frequent trips to Destin, where she loved the relaxing comfort of the white sand and the gulf waves on the shore. Special thanks to the nurses and aides at Northshore hospital who gave her special loving care and comfort during her too frequent hospital stays during her last two years. Brandt, Jr., age 81, died Sunday, May 30, 2010 at his Lafayette County, MS home. Born June 1, 1928, in Toledo, Ohio, he grew up ice skating and ice fishing on Lake Michigan. He earned a B.S. from University of Toledo, served in the Ohio National Guard and the U.S. Army intelligence aerial photography operations during the Korean War at Fort Polk, LA. Preferring the warmth of Louisiana to Ohio, after discharge, he earned an M.S. in geography from LSU, met his wife of 55 years, Frances Dutsch, and lived in Baker, LA for 50 years before moving to Mississippi after retirement from the LA Dept of Transportation where he worked on the first 30 years of developing interstate highways. He was an avid horticulturist, grower of azaleas and camellias, and a member and judge for the American Camellia Society. He is survived by his wife Frances, three daughters and one son: Katherine Barroll of Lexington, SC, Mary Jensen of Oxford, MS, Mark Brandt of Pontotoc, MS and Virginia Brandt of St. Francisville, LA, two sons-in-law Leeds Barroll and Patrick Jensen, four grandchildren Joseph and Agnes Barroll, and Marie and Eric Brandt Rider, one uncle, numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews and great grand nieces and nephews.
