Charles "Bubbie" P. Rust, Jr. passed away on Friday, April 23, 2010 at the age 
of 73. 

A native of New Orleans , a lifelong resident of Lacombe. 

Son of the late Charles P. Rust, Sr. and Mary Christ Rust. Brother of Mary A. 
Rust Strength and the late James J. Rust. He is survived by two nephews, 
Benjamin C. Rust and Christopher J. Rust, and a niece Lee Ann Rust Cosgrove. 

Bubbie was a former member of Living Word Assembly in Lacombe and a longtime 
member of First Baptist Church of Lacombe. He will be remembered for his 
friendly nature and ever-present smile.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the memorial service at First 
Baptist Church, 27351 Hwy. 190, Lacombe, LA 70445 on Thursday, May 13, 2010 at 
6:00 pm.

Mary Elizabeth Moore Carter died after a fall on Saturday, May 1, 2010 at the 
age of 89. Mary was born on October 2, 1920 in Zwolle, Louisiana to J. M. and 
Florence Moore. She grew up in DeRidder, Louisiana and graduated from Lake 
Charles High School. She attended Louisiana State University where she was Vice 
President of Chi Omega sorority and sponsor for the ROTC Company I. She met her 
husband, Shelley "Mitch" Carter at LSU. They married in 1952 and moved to 
Shreveport, Louisiana. They were active members of the community and of First 
Presbyterian Church; she was President and a lifetime member of PTA, the Junior 
League and Cotillion. They raised their family in Shreveport and enjoyed water 
skiing and boating on Lake Bistineau with family and friends.

In 1997 they moved to Mandeville where they became active members and served as 
Elders at New Covenant Presbyterian Church. Mary also served as President of the 
Presbyterian Women. They were also very active with marching bands, plays and 
school activities with their grand children.

Mary is survived by her son Larry Carter and wife Debbie of Austin, Texas, and 
her daughter Deenie Reese and husband Dan of Madisonville, Louisiana. She is 
also survived by grandchildren Chris Carlson, Michael Carter, Shelley Reese and 
Carter Reese. Her son Tucker died in 2005 and her beloved Mitch died in 2007.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to a memorial worship service on 
Tuesday, May 4th at 3:00 pm at New Covenant Presbyterian Church, 4375 Hwy 22, 
Mandeville, LA 70471. Friends are invited to join the family after the service 
at a reception at the church. A private graveside service was held in Pinecrest 
Memorial Gardens.

The family requests that memorials be made to the Memorial Fund at New Covenant 
Presbyterian Church.

Robert Melvin Braiwick, Sr. passed away on Sunday, May 2, 2010 at his home in 
Mandeville, LA at the age of 88. 

He was born December 9, 1921 in Seattle, Washington, and he resided in New 
Orleans for 60 years before moving to Mandeville in 2007. 

He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Shirley Brue Braiwick and their 
five children: Melanie Saunders and her husband Larry of Mandeville, LA., 
Theresa (Tery) Scalco and her husband Steven of Metairie, Robert Braiwick, Jr. 
and his wife Cindy of Metairie, Arthur Braiwick and John Christian Braiwick of 
Mandeville, LA. He was the devoted grandfather of eleven grandchildren: Andrea 
Saunders Basili of Ariccia, Italy, Bret Saunders of Dallas, TX., Melissa 
Chandler of Madisonville, LA., Bobby Braiwick, III., Christian Michael Braiwick, 
Arthur Braiwick, and Denise Braiwick Dorr of Mandeville, LA., Daniel Braiwick 
and Michelle Braiwick Pittfield of Robert, LA., Matthew Scalco of Austin, TX., 
and Jeffery Scalco of Metairie, LA.; and seven great grandchildren: Lorenzo and 
Sara Basili, Roderick III and Ben Chandler, Parker Grace Braiwick, Andrew Dorr 
and Blake Saunders. He is the son of the late Christian G. and Clara Sande 
Braiwick of San Pedro, CA. He is also survived by his brother Raymond Braiwick 
of Torrance, CA. 

Mr. Braiwick was a U.S. Army Lieutenant and Veteran of World War II. He held 
management positions with Winn-Dixie and Zuppardo's Super Markets.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Services. A Mass of 
Christian Burial will be held at Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 1501 W. 
Causeway Approach, Mandeville, LA 70471 on Friday, May 7, 2010 at 12:00 noon. 
Visitation will be held at the church from 10:30 am until service time. 
Interment will follow in Saint Joseph Abbey Cemetery.

Thomas Edward Brewster passed away Friday, April 30, 2010, at 86.

He was the beloved husband of Joyce Pritchard Brewster; loving father of Dennis 
E. Brewster, Darrell T. Brewster, David A. Brewster, Don P. Brewster and Darin 
J. Brewster; son of the late Olga McNeely Brewster and John E. Brewster; brother 
of John N. Brewster, Alfred E. Brewster, Mary Joan Brewster Hayno and Henrietta 
E. Holmes and grandfather of Thomas Van Brewster, Emily J. Brewster, Olga 
Rebbeca Brewster, Travis Cherry, Scott D. Brewster and the late Evan M. 
Brewster.

A funeral Mass was held yesterday from the chapel at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home,

Earl Charles Clairain Jr., 65, passed away Thursday, April 29, 2010.

He was the beloved husband of 40 years to Margaret Lemons Clairain; loving 
father of Heather C. Cutrer and her husband Carey and Janine T. Clairain and her 
fiancˇ, Markham K. Moore; grandfather of William and Jacques and brother of 
Walter Clairain and his wife, Zula.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Sophie Quave Clairain; and his father, 
Earl Charles Clairain Sr.

He was a native of Madisonville and a lifetime resident of Covington. With his 
brother, he owned and operated Clairain Concrete Products.

Private funeral services will be held for family. The family would prefer

Frances Jane Lee passed away Thursday, April 29, 2010, at 81. She was a resident 
of Slidell for the past 65 years.

She was the beloved wife of Eli "Fritz" Lee for the past 45 years; mother of 
Elder Coleman and Janet Coleman Chauvin; she is also survived by three 
grandchildren, Jason Coleman, Jessica Chauvin and Jamie Chauvin and daughter-in-
law, Patricia Coleman.

She was also a member of Northside Baptist Church and the Eastern Star.

Family and friends are invited to attend services at 11 a.m. tomorrow at Honaker 
Funeral Home, 1751 Gause Blvd., Slidell with visitation beginning at 9 a.m.

The Rev. William H. Lee Jr. passed away Thursday, April 29, 2010, at the age of 
55.

He was the beloved husband of Sherree L. Lee; loving father of Lena Lee Cowart 
and James Lee; son of Ollie Lee Kozel and the late William H. Lee, Sr. and 
brother of Rickie Lee and Micky Young. He is also survived by five 
grandchildren.

He was the founding pastor of Magnolia Baptist Church in Covington.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend funeral services at 5 
p.m. tomorrow at Magnolia Baptist Church, 76147 Louisiana Highway 25, Covington, 
with visitation at the church beginning at 4 p.m. Interment will be in Odd 
Fellows Cemetery in Bayou La Batre, Ala., at 11 a.m. Tuesday. E

Catherine Schlesinger, 90, passed away Wednesday, April 28, 2010, at Tulane 
University Medical Center in New Orleans.

She was the beloved wife of the late Charles Schlesinger; mother of Tina 
Palestina (Anthony), Marguerite Waller and Anthony Schlesinger. She is also 
survived by seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

She was a native of Italy and a resident of New Orleans for the past 60 years.

U.S. Veteran Sam Allgood, Jr. of Mandeville, LA died Monday in New Orleans, LA. 
He was 83. The cause of death was due to complications from a stroke.

Mr. Allgood was born on May 15, 1926 in Voth, TX and was raised in Lake Charles, 
LA. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and enrolled at LSU following 
the war. Mr. Allgood received a bachelor's degree in education from LSU and was 
a proud member of the 1950 LSU National Championship Boxing Team. After 
graduating from LSU, he married Bettie Jane Meador of Clarksville, Indiana and 
went on to teach and coach boxing at Plaquemine High School. In 1956, he went to 
work in the oilfield services industry, and eventually rose to become President 
of Tidewater Marine Inc in New Orleans, LA. He retired from Tidewater Marine in 
1982. Mr. Allgood was a strong supporter of LSU and served as Chairman of the 
board of directors of the LSU Foundation. He also was an avid golfer and served 
as President of Metairie Country Club.

Mr. Allgood is survived by his spouse, Joyce Deutchmann Allgood; son, Sam 
Allgood III of Baton Rouge; daughters, Lynette Allgood McMillen of Folsom, Holly 
Allgood Wolfert of Greensboro, GA and Becky Allgood Swindell of Dallas, TX ; 
sister, Mary Janet Allgood Hartman; and, 9 grandchildren and 4 great 
grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Sam. S. Allgood Sr. and 
Minvera of Lake Charles, LA; his first wife Bettie Meador Allgood; and his 
brothers, Glenn Allgood of Baton Rouge and Frank Allgood of Jennings, LA.

A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, May 6, 2010 at 10:00am at St. 
Timothy's United Methodist Church in Mandeville, LA.

In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer memorial donations to the LSU 
Foundation's "Forever LSU" Campaign or St. Timothy's United Methodist Church in 
Mandeville LA.

Nathan (Nate Dog) Charles Avants, 11 years old of Covington, La passed away 
Monday, May 3rd, 2010 at Northshore Memorial hospital from complications of 
diabetes.

Nathan was born June 15th, 1998 in Baton Rouge, LA. He attended Pine View Middle 
School. He loved to play outdoors, whether it was baseball, basketball, 4H, with 
the animals on his grandparents' farm, attending animal auctions, vacationing 
with his family or fishing at the camp with his Stepfather and Grandfather. He 
loved his family dearly, especially his little sister Kate. He loved spending 
time with his best friends, Kelly McCormick and Cousins Alex and Kori. He loved 
doing arts and crafts with his Grandma Jean and Grandpa Charles. He was the 
light of our lives, a true angel among us. His soul was pure and his love was 
never ending. He taught us how to love and truly cherish those around us. He had 
the most beautiful big blue eyes and freckled cheeks. He will be missed greatly 
and our hearts will forever be changed by his glorious presence.

He is survived by his loving parents, Gary and Melissa Miley, and Jeremy Avants; 
sister Katelyn Anise Miley; grandparents Gary and Pam Miley, Charles and Jean 
Schaefer, Wayne Avants Sr and Sharon Thacker; Aunts\Uncles Amber Miley, Belinda 
& Frank Miley, Lisa Trevino, Dawn & Jaime Galloway, Aurora Cockrell, Christina & 
Richard Carpenter, Victoria Schaefer(John Torres), Dana Avants(Wayne Paran), 
Kristy Avants(Jeffere Poche), and James & Tiffany Pierce; Cousins Alex Roberts,

Rufus Sidney Bennett. Mother of Julie and Danny Trahan and Cindy Bennett Eidson. 
Also survived by seven grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

Nicholas M. Cognevich, Sr. passed away on Monday, May 3, 2010 at the age of 78.

Beloved husband of Grace Clerc Cognevich. Loving father of Nicholas M. 
Cognevich, Jr., Debra C. Singer and Gina C. Goetzie. Son of the late Anita Ban 
Cognevich and Dimitry J. Cognevich, Sr. Brother of the late Dimitry Cognevich, 
Jr. and Andrew Cognevich. Also survived by five grandchildren and five great-
grandchildren.

Mr. Cognevich was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, a member of St. 
Peter Catholic Church and a resident of Covington for the past 32 years.

The family would like to thank the staff of St. Tammany Parish Hospital for 
their compassionate care.

Clarice Marian Sellers DeSalvo passed away on May 3, 2010.

She was born April 18, 1941 in Arcadia, FL to the late John B. and Marianne 
Hollingsworth Sellers.

The beloved wife of Salvador Peter DeSalvo, she is survived by two sons, Timothy 
John DeSalvo (Lisa) and Samuel Joseph DeSalvo (Maria); two brothers, John B., 
Jr. and Frank O. Sellers and seven grandchildren: Alyssa, Alex, Rene` and Ryan, 
Samantha, Dylan and Faith DeSalvo.

Clarice moved to New Orleans as a young girl and was a graduate of Fortier High 
School with the class of 1958. She married in 1964 and lived in Algiers for 31 
years before moving to Covington in 1996.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend funeral services at 
11:00 AM on Friday, May 7, 2010 at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W. 21st 
Ave., Covington, LA 70433.

A wake is scheduled for Thursday, May 6, 2010 from 6-9:00 PM.

DUPRE

Eugene Dupre, Jr., age 74, passed away Thursday, April 29, 2010, at Northshore 
Regional Medical Center in Slidell.

He was a born in New Orleans, and was a longtime resident of Slidell.

Mr. Eugene is survived by his wife of 53 years, Joy Dupre. He is also survived 
by brothers and sisters-in-laws, Eugene and Tina Schwankhart, Anthony and Joan 
Engolia and Anthony Joseph Schwankhart, plus a host of nieces, nephews, and 
friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Aline Dupre, Sr. 
and his sister, Lou Ellen Dupre.

A memorial service will be held at noon Friday, at D.T. Williams Funeral Home, 
67525 Hwy. 41, Pearl River, with visitation starting at 9 a.m. until service 
time.

Edna Earl Hale passed away Wednesday, April 28, 2010, at the age of 78. 

Edna was a native of Schulenburg, Texas and a resident of Mandeville. 

She was the beloved wife of the late Alton Charles Hale; mother of Ricky Eugene 
Hale and the late Michael Glenn Hale, Randy Lynn Hale, and Lori Marie Mariakis; 
daughter of the late Georgia Alice Little Mayhall and J.D. Mayhall; sister of 
Glenda Mae Rowe and Melvin Drumm and sister-in-law of Bill Rowe. She is also 
survived by seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Hamann. She is also survived by two grandchildren; Angela D. Rivet and Eddie 
McCarthy, Jr. and three great-grandchildren, Mayha L. Rivet, Makayla B. Keller 
and Dwight S. McFadden, plus many nieces and nephews. 

She was a native of New Orleans and a resident of Slidell. Mrs. Matheson was a 
past member of the Eastern Star.

The funeral services were held yesterday at Honaker Funeral Home, Slidell. 
Interment was in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Slidell. Arrangements by Honaker Funeral

Glenn R. O'Rourke, 64, of Slidell, passed away Monday, May 3, 2010, at Slidell, 
Memorial Hospital. 

He was the beloved husband of Tammy McCoy O'Rourke and the late Mary Frizzell 
O'Rourke; father of Cheryl Beadle, Theresa Hilgendorf, Wendy Beadle and Kelie 
Thole; stepfather of Tia Steins and Bradley Matthews; son of the late Edmund and 
Shirley O'Rourke; son-in-law of Brenda McCoy and brother of Jim, Jack, Tom and 
Paul O'Rourke. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren.

He was a native of Pontiac, Mich., and a resident of Slidell. Mr. O'Rourke was 
the owner and operator of Windward, Inc. of Slidell. He was a member of the 
Tammany Yacht Club.

66.

Beloved husband of Paulette Seguin Cialona. Loving father of Salvador L. 
Cialona, Jr. (and wife Tracy) and Shane L. Cialona (and wife Andre). Son of the 
late Catherine Barraco Cialona and Lorenz Cialona. Grandfather of Angelina 
Cialona, Mason Cialona, Bryson Cialona, Anderson Cialona, and Ben. Great-
grandfather of Lane Wesley Coxe. Brother of Jake Cialona (and wife, Joyce) and 
the late Jacquelyn Agnelly. Son-in-law of Rosemary Crockett. Also survived many 
friends and relatives.

He was native of New Orleans and a resident of Madisonville for the past 26 
years.

JOHNSON, NANCY BEERS 
(December 6, 1939 - May 6, 2010)

After an extended illness, Nancy Beers Johnson died Thursday, May 6th, 2010, in 
New Orleans, Louisiana. 

Nancy was born in Selma, Alabama, December 6, 1939. Growing up on the family 
farm in Tyler, Nancy was able to enjoy horses and her many other animals during 
her entire childhood. She attended Albert G. Parrish High School, graduating 
with honors in 1957. She enrolled in Sophia Newcomb College in New Orleans, 
Louisiana and later transferred to the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, 
Alabama. She graduated with a BS Degree in Education in 1962. 

Nancy was married to Dr. Ralph E. Griffin and lived in Melbourne, Florida for a 
number of years. She later taught English, riding, and jumping at Golden Hills 
Academy in Ocala, Florida. 

Nancy later married Harry L. Johnson and after relocating back to Dallas County, 
she received her Master's Degree from West Alabama University. She then taught 
English in Selma, Alabama for a number of years at Morgan Academy. Reentering 
the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, she was awarded her Doctorate Degree in 
Education in 1982.

Making New Orleans her home once again, Nancy taught English at the University 
of New Orleans for a number of years and later at smaller junior colleges. 
During her years of teaching she also edited for the national English 
publication, College English, and co-edited two English textbooks.

Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Robert 
Beers, junior, her two daughters, Mary Clayton Griffin and Elizabeth Lynn 
Johnson. She is survived by her daughter Avery Griffin Schuette (Bill), two 
brothers, George Robert Beers III (Joy), William Russell Beers, nephews George 
Robert Beers IV (Bert), Randall Clay Beers (Alicia), and a niece Rebecca Ashley 
Beers. Also surviving are her aunts Betty Gray Driggers and Mary Frances Poe.

Memorials may be made to the Ronald McDonald House in Boston, Massachusetts or 
to your favorite charity. A memorial service will be held Sunday May, 9th at 
Church Street United Methodist Church in Selma, Alabama at 2:00 P.M. The family 
will receive guest in the Calhoun parlor after the service.

Viola Nadeen Fell Bercegay passed away Friday, April 30 2010, at the age of 81. 
"Nadeen" was a native of Pensacola, Fla., and a resident of Folsom.

She was the beloved wife of the late Ezekiel Bercegay; mother of Yvonne 
Melbourne, Henry Bercegay, Glenn Bercegay, Wayne Bercegay, Russell Bercegay, 
Rene Bercegay and Dean Bercegay; daughter of the late Nancy Kathrine Dugger Fell 
and William (Bill) R. Fell; sister of Thielda Berryhill, Eula Mae Howard and the 
late Nella Delphine Thomas; and the sister-in law of Henrietta Pierre of 
Franklinton. She is also survived by 19 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, 
10 great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and Christian family 
members.

"You will remain in our hearts forever."

The funeral service was held yesterday at Bagnell & Son Funeral Home in 
Covington. Interment was in Rainey Cemetery.

Pete L. Bush, 61, passed away Tuesday, May 4, 2010, at Ochsner Northshore 
Hospital in Slidell.

He was the beloved husband of Mary Bush; father of Albert Bush Cole, Peter Bush, 
Patrick Bush and Andrea Robles; son of late O'Neil and Mollie Bush and brother 
of Donnie Bush (Sylvia), Faye Landry (Rick), and the late Ann Dupaquier. He is 
also survived by two grandchildren, Skyler and Tyler Bush and nieces and 
nephews, Karen, Joey, Darrin, Rhonda, Ricky and Dennis.

He was a native of New Orleans and a resident of Slidell. Bush served his 
country in the U.S, Air Force during the Vietnam War.

Jerry Dean Sandifer Guillott, 78, a native of Folsom and a resident of Daphne, 
Ala., passed away Tuesday May 4, 2010.

She is survived by her daughter, Kay Guillott of Daphne; and a host of nieces, 
nephews, other relatives and friends.

Jerry was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest "Boots" Guillott; and 
brother, Bennie "Mont" Sandifer.

 "Upon graduation, my dear sweet Mom became a minute clerk of court in 
Covington. After marrying my Daddy, and having me, she became involved with the 
Girl Scouts of America. She started with me in the Brownies. When we moved to 
the Eastern Shore in Daphne, Mom joined the Lake Forest Garden and Women's 
clubs. After discovering my maternal grandmother had Alzheimer's, Jerry became 
active in getting a support committee here to help others in her situation. She 
then became involved in community activities such as the Beautification 
Committee and starting the recycling program. She is truly missed and loved very 
much."

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. tomorrow at Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home 
in Daphne. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11 a.m. 
until service time. Interment will follow in the Jubilee Memorial Gardens. In

Edna Earl Hale passed away Wednesday, April 28, 2010, at the age of 78. Edna was 
a native of Schulenburg, Texas, and a resident of Mandeville.

She was the beloved wife of the late Alton Charles Hale; mother of Ricky Eugene 
Hale and the late Michael Glenn Hale, Randy Lynn Hale and Lori Marie Mariakis;

Marie Lamy Lagasse, or "Momma Marie," as she was lovingly known by so many, 
arrived peacefully in her eternal home Friday, April 30, 2010. She was 82.

She was the beloved wife of Clinton William Lagasse for the past 59 years;

John Preston Morgan (JP) went to be with the Lord on Friday, May 7, 2010.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Morgan; her four children, Sherry Boswell, 
Patti Gonzales, Lisa Hall and Joel Irvin; his former wife, Rosemary R. Morgan; 
their three daughters, Dianne Baham, Denise Johnson and Mary McLain; two 
sisters, Cora Lee McDaniel and Emma Jean White; five sons-in-law; eighteen 
grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and 
friends.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Michael Morgan and Johnny Morgan; his 
parents, William and Effie Morgan; and by brothers and sisters, Alvin, Milton 
(Pig) and Steve Morgan, Daisey Sharkey, Ella Metcalf and Louise Seal.

Mr. Morgan, age 88, was a member of Temple Baptist Church, served in the U.S. 
Army during WW II, and was the co-owner of Capitol Garden Center in Baton Rouge 
for 52 years.

Otera Parris Graeber passed away in her daughter's home on May 8, 2010.

Otera was born October 15, 1914 in Mount Olive, Mississippi to Martha Henley 
Parris and Tazwell Parris who preceded her in death. 

She was married to her love, Herman "Abie" Graeber in 1931 and will join him in 
heaven. She also joins her sisters that have gone before her: Laurie Simmons, 
Lavonia Burge, Letha "Pete" Jones, and Jessie Mae Carpenter. 

She is survived by her loving sisters Bobbie Parris and Susie Stringfellow. She 
is also survived by her daughter, Martha Louise Graeber Davis and son-in-law 
William Francis Davis.

Otera was very involved in the lives of her grandchildren and she will be 
greatly missed by them and their spouses: Tabatha Davis Vallelungo and Kelly 
Vallelungo, William Francis Davis, Jr and Roxann Davis, Julie Davis Lupo and 
Timothy Lupo.

She also leaves behind her great grandchildren who she adored watching grow and 
play: Cory Michael Davis, Cole Michael Vallelungo, Elizabeth Francis Davis, 
Bailey Davis Lupo, Shelby Nicole Davis, Brody James Lupo, William Francis Davis 
III, and Blake Abie Lupo. She also leaves many nieces and nephews and neighbors.


Otera was a lifelong resident of Poplarville, Mississippi. 

She was an avid gardener and loved plants and flowers. Mrs. 

Otera worked for many years at Pearl River Drug and loved serving the community 
of Poplarville. She loved farming and the outdoors at her home in Millard. Otera 
was a member of West Poplarville Baptist Church. The world was a better place 
because of her and she will be missed dearly.

of John and Matthew Lusk, and the late Zachary Lusk. Great-grandmother of Ava 
Lusk. Sister of the late Sadie Aguillard Bodin. 

Mrs. Lusk was a longtime resident of Franklin, LA and has been a resident of 
Slidell since 1983. Former officer in the Eastern Star organization and active

Suzanne Aileen Doane Hill, 93, died Sunday, April 25, 2010, in Williamsburg, Va. 

Suzanne was born on March 30, 1917, to Capt. and Mrs. George W. Doane at Fort 
Totten, N.Y. She moved with her mother, Susan Aileen Schmetzer Doane, and 
sister, Margaret Kloman Doane "Peggy" to Phoebus, Va., where the sisters 
attended the Bryant Kindergarten, Phoebus Elementary and Junior High schools and 
were graduated from Hampton High School in 1933.

Suzanne attended William and Mary College in 1934-1936 and was a member of the 
Kappa Delta sorority. She was married to Lt. Charles W. Hill on Sept. 8, 1936, 
at the Chapel of the Centurion in Fort Monroe, Va. She then accompanied her 
husband to Fort Mills, Corregidor, the Philippines, where Suzanne taught French 
and Latin at Fort Mills High School, and where their son, Charlie Jr. was born 
in 1938.

The family returned to Fort Monroe in 1939. Her husband served in the South 
Pacific during World War II and Suzanne taught at the Fort Monroe preschool. A 
second son, John Robert, was born at Fort Bliss, Texas, in 1945 and a daughter, 
Susan Mary, was born at Fort Scott, The Presidio, Calif., in 1947.

After World War II, Charles was ordered to Vanderbilt University where he 
received his Ph.D. in psychology in 1952. Suzanne returned to school at that 
time and received her Ph.D. in psychology at the George Washington University in 
1963. She taught at Howard and The George Washington Universities in Washington, 
D.C. and at the University of New Orleans, retiring as Professor Emeritus in 
1987. She then developed a psychological clinic for young children and their 
parents in Covington.

During Charles' two tours in the Pentagon, Suzanne lived in Alexandria, Va., and 
McLean, Va. In between the Pentagon duty the Hills lived in Frankfurt, Germany. 
During Charles' 26-year Army career they traveled the world, enjoying all the 
new and exotic experiences, and they continued such travels into retirement.

She was instrumental in founding the Covington Head Start Program and the Regina 
Coeli Family Service Center in Covington. She was active in community service 
organizations. Known to family and friends as Tutu, she was much loved for her 
fairness, kindness, intelligence, lovely smile, love of music, and sense of joy 
and of the ridiculous.

Suzanne moved with her husband to Patriots Colony in Williamsburg in 1996. She 
was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years (April 2003) and her sister, 
Peggy (August 2009).

She is survived by her sons Charles Jr. (Nelle) of New Orleans, John (partner

Her body was donated to science. A celebration of life will be held at Patriots 
Colony at a time to be determined.

Hilyard Sonnier, 73, passed away Thursday, May 6, 2010, at his residence in 
Slidell.

He was a resident of Slidell for the past 46 years and was a member of Northside 
Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Patsy Sonnier; children, Shirley West, Ty Sonnier, 
Leslie Sonnier, and Jerry Sonnier, and their spouses, Bert West, and Donna, 
Tammy and Mary Sonnier; two brothers, Alton Sonnier of Youngsville, and Robert 
Sonnier of Louieville and two sisters, Ethel Rodrigue of Cutoff and Onita Jones. 
He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Memorial service were held yesterday at Northside Baptist Church, Slidell.

He was born August 18, 1936 in New Orleans, was a long time resident of Metairie 
and also had a residence in St. Tammany for the past 25 years.

The beloved husband of the late Rosemary Hartenstine Boehler, he is survived by 
one sister Amy Boehler Foster, two nieces, June Ann Foley and Mary Dolores 
Vigueira; one nephew, Kenneth Strain; the family would like to acknowledge his 
devoted friend Kathy Bird and all his friends at Six Fortune Restaurant in 
Mandeville. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles E. Boehler, Sr. and 
Amy Strain Boehler Bertucci; one brother, Floyd Strain and Sister, June Boehler 
Merida.

for the past two years.

Homes and St. Catherine's Hospice for their excellent care.

Schoen wife of/and Gary T. Schoen, J.P. Warner husband of/and Valerie Smith 
Warner, all of Covington, and the late Shirley Warner Schoen wife of/and the 
late Cyprian J. "Cyp" Schoen, and the late Dorothy Ann Warner. Many nieces and 
nephews loved and cared for her; particularly Mark W. Schoen and his family of 
Baton Rouge; others include Jeffrey D. Schoen, Gary T. Schoen, Jr. and Glenn P. 
Warner, all of Covington, Preston W. Schoen of Mandeville, Stephen W. Schoen of 
Denver, CO and Ann Courtney Warner of Hammond; George H. Diedrich, III, Diane D.

J. Diedrich of Baton Rouge. "Lee-Lee", as she was affectionately known, will be

He was a native of Port Barre, and a resident of Slidell since 1970. Mr. Morris 
was a retired supervisor, heavy equipment operator, and craftsman. Mr. Morris 
was a long time parishioner and supporter of St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic 
Church in Slidell.

Biscuits". He will be remembered for his love of life and a good time.

John William Broom of Mandeville, Louisiana, age 55, passed away on Friday, May 
14, 2010. 

He was the beloved husband of Cindy Gaye Higgins, his treasured wife for the 
past 20 years, and father of Carson Elise Higgins Broom, his most precious 
daughter who he loved so much. 

He is also survived by his stepdaughter, Jessa Barthels, her husband, Erik, and 
their son, Miles, and his stepson, Zachary Queyrouze. 

Johnny is greatly mourned by his parents, John Charles Broom and Elizabeth 
Sellars Broom. Johnny, their only son, was always there for them. He will be 
greatly missed by his four sisters to whom he was the big brother although he 
was younger than two of them. He was their peacemaker, friend, confidante, and 
technological advisor-if Johnny were there, everything was going to be okay. 

His sisters and their families are Holly Broom (Charles Holton, husband, Wesley 
and Kathy Boudreaux, son and daughter-in-law, Darce' and Christopher Byrd, 
daughter and son-in-law), Charlotte Price (Roy Price, husband, Ben Price and 
Joshua Price, sons), Lisa Warren, (Leah Wooten, daughter, Zoe Wooten, Jonathan 
Smith, and Chance Smith, grandchildren, Dillan and Ann Warren, son and daughter-
in-law, Rider Warren, grandson), and Michelle Broom (Chloe Broom, daughter). 

John was born in Port Sulphur, Louisiana and his first home was in Venice, 
Louisiana. He then moved with the family across Louisiana, Texas, and 
California. During this time, he was active in music, sports and boy scouts. He 
graduated from University of California at Bakersfield and pursued a career in 
communication and technology sales. 

Family and friends are invited to celebrate his life at the Funeral Service at

Donal Leo Konrick, born Sept. 16, 1924, 85, passed away Monday, May 10, 2010, at 
his home.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine F. Konrick; his parents, August and 
Francis Konrick; brother, Lyle Konrick; and sister, Alison Mason.

Survivors include his children, Donna West (Greg), David Konrick (Tami) and 
Cathy Berns (Dave); 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He served in the 4th Division in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II with 
the Carlson's Raiders, where he received several commendations including two 
Purple Hearts.

He retired from the city of New Orleans, streets-maintenance division. He was a 
carpenter and motorman for NOPSI and was a member of the VFW, American Legion, 
DAV and the Marine Corps League.

The funeral service was yesterday at Honaker Funeral Home, Slidell. Interment 
will be at 10 a.m. today in the Biloxi National Cemetery.

David Jay Manton passed away on May 14, 2010. A life resident of Folsom, he was 
born October 18, 1988 in Covington, LA.

The beloved son of Norman J., Jr. and Sherrie Buras Manton, he is survived by 
his sister, Meghan Buras Manton. He was the grandson of Donna Bulloch Buras and 
Norman Jay, Sr. and Alma Michon Manton and the late Leon C. Buras, Jr. He was 
the nephew of A. Wayne and Millie Buras, Leon C. "Buddy" Buras, III, the late 
Sherrie Rodwig Buras, Nicholas L., Nathan J., Naomi L. and Nolan J. Manton. He 
is also survived by countless cousins, extended family and friends. David was a 
charitable and giving soul who idolized his # 1 mom, the love of his life. 

He learned his trade from his father and grandfather to become a skilled 
craftsman and avid outdoorsman. He was willing to share his skills, always ready 
to help friends or family and never expected anything in return. David will 
truly be missed and will always live on in the spirit of his mother, father and 
little sister.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend funeral services at 
1:00 PM on Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W. 21st

Donald Ray Singletary Sr., 70, of Pearl River, went to be with the Lord 
Wednesday May 12, 2010.

Donald was a lifetime resident of Pearl River. He was a member of Pine Grove 
United Pentecostal Church and was retired after 30 years with the Louisiana 
State Police.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Cochran Singletary; son, Donald Ray 
Singletary Jr.; two daughters, Virginia Singletary and Carolyn Sheridan; 
stepson, James E. Bennett; and two stepdaughters, Diane Hollie and Deborah Ann 
Polk. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and two 
great-grandchildren on the way.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Williams Funeral Home, 67525 
Louisiana Highway 41, Pearl River, with the Rev. Billy Trusley officiating.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Interment will follow in Austin 
Cemetery, Hickory.

Harold Joseph Songy, 87, passed away Tuesday, May 11, 2010.

He was the beloved husband of Nell Rose Songy; father of Harold D. Songy, 
Frederick J. Songy, Gayle Stone, Ralph J. Songy, Diane Labat and David Songy; 
son of the late Steven and Rosa Songy; and brother of Myrtle Gervais, Naomie 
Seifert, the late Steve, Earl and Rita Songy. He is also survived by 13 
grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren.

He was a native of New Orleans, a longtime resident of Chalmette and a resident 
of Slidell since 2005.

75.

She was the beloved wife of James Eugene Vaultz; mother of Christopher (Deanna)

Colston and Miles Craford; daughter of the late Cyril Jr. and Irene Ray and 
sister of Loraine (Virgil) Williams, Veronica (Cecil) McLaughlin, Anna Laura 
McKendall, Jessica (Alvin) Roberts, Terry (Sherry) Ray, Shelton (Gerry Dean) Ray 
and Cyril III (Karen) Ray. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and 
friends.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Nathan Ray and one sister, Violet Ray.

A lifetime resident of Slidell, she will be best remembered for her compassion 
and warm heart.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. tomorrow at St. Luke Catholic 
Church, 910 Cross Gates Blvd., Slidell.

ROBERT THOMAS "BOBBY" DYER, died on Saturday, May 15, 2010 at Ochsner Northshore 
Hospital. He was 57 years old. 

Bobby was a native of New Orleans and a resident of Slidell for the past 24 
years. 

Husband of Susan Means. Father of Bevin and Ian Dyer; grandfather of Urian and 
Iris Cavallo, and Ava Dyer. 

Preceded in death by his beloved father-in-law Ted Means. 

Survived by his parents Dave and Evelyn Dyer; three sisters: Pam Wood, Pat Dyer, 
and Faye Dyer; two brothers: Jimmy and Glenn Dyer, and a host of other relatives 
and friends. 

Bobby was a retiree of the New Orleans Clerks & Checkers Union Local 1497, and a 
member of the Slidell Chapter of Ducks Unlimited. He was also Team Captain of 
the Volunteer Building Committee of Slidell Community Playground in Heritage 
Park, and coached Slidell Youth Basketball for several years.

Carlo Joseph "C.J." Giordano, Jr. passed away suddenly on Saturday, May 15, 2010 
at the age of 44. 

C.J. is survived by his children Amber Giordano and Elizabeth Morse; his mother 
Irene Sarran; his brothers Shawn Giordano and Tony Giordano and sister-in-law 
Juliett; their children Nathan and Nathalie Giordano; his grandchildren Jacob, 
Landon, and Caleb Giordano, and Makayla, Elijah, and Nicholas Morse; beloved 
companion Melissa Bowles and her daughter Danielle Bowles; his aunts Rita 
Trosclair, Catherine Stribling, Ruth O'Quin, and uncle Mike O'Quin; and many 
cousins and friends. 

He is preceded in death by his father Carlo Giordano, brother Ryan Giordano, son 
Joseph Giordano, and aunt Eleanor LeFebvre.

C.J. was a great chef, son, and humanitarian. His generous and joyous spirit 
drew others to him, and his kindness, great stories, and wonderful food made him 
many steadfast friends. His family was the cornerstone of his life, and he 
devoted himself to helping and serving them. In his spare time, he especially 
enjoyed cooking, movies, music, and cars. The love he had for cars led him to 
open his own business, Repo Express, which he owned for many years. Previously, 
he worked as a private investigator, remodeling consultant, and chef. He was 
treasured by his family and friends and will be deeply missed.

of C.J.'s Life at The Rivers Retreat Center, 14253 Highway 190, Covington, LA on

Assistant for the Jefferson Parish Sherriff's Office. She was a former member of 
the Southern Spice Marching club which paraded in the St. Patrick's Day parade 
and also the Krewe of Isis.

Gordon Orme Jackson passed away on May 18, 2010. He was born October 11, 1964 in 
New Orleans to James Norcom Jackson, Jr. and the late Mary Alice Reiss Jackson.

The beloved husband of Charlotte Walker Jackson, he is survived by one daughter, 
Madeline McCall Borque; his son, Reiss Baldwin Jackson; two sisters, Elizabeth 
O. Jackson and Peggy J. Napier; one brother, James N. "Buzz" Jackson III and his 
life long friend and business partner, C. Patrick Fulton.

A native of New Orleans and a resident of Covington since 1968, Gordon graduated 
from St. Paul's School with the class of 1982 and attended Southeastern 
Louisiana University. He was an employee of Coastal Cargo Company, Inc. in New 
Orleans for over 10 years before starting his own custom cabinetry business in 
Covington in 1999.

Gordon was not only a devoted husband and loving father, but he impacted his 
community in such unique ways with his generosity, compassion and humble being.

Earl Patrick "Pat' Ward, 68, passed into the loving arms of his Savior on 
Tuesday, May 18th, 2010.

He is survived by his beloved wife Eva Hall Ward, with whom he shared 43 years 
of marriage, loving father of Kevin Ward and wife Paula, Stephen Ward and wife 
Laura and Ashley Ward Gernon and husband Jeff. He is also survived by six 
grandchildren Benjamin, Samuel and Anna Ward; Gabrielle, Parker and Colton 
Gernon, a step-grandchild Ryan Lipps, his brother David Ward and sister in law 
Betty, brother in law Edgar "Pepper" Hall and his aunt Thelma Rabalais. Son of 
the late Milton and Vera Ward.

Pat was a decorated veteran of the US Navy who served during the Vietnam War. A 
successful businessman, he owned an offshore services company until his 
retirement in 1998. During retirement, Pat pursued his numerous artistic talents 
by writing a novel and a screenplay, building homes, a wooden sailboat and 
furniture for family members. A well known local artist, working in multiple 
mediums he opened "A Frame Art" in Madisonville. An avid supporter of the art 
community, he founded "Art for Madisonville".

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a memorial service on 
Saturday May 22, 2010 at 11:00am at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 1 North 
Marigold Drive, Covington, LA 70433. Interment will be private.

Harold Theodore Krumm Sr., born Jan. 31, 1932, in Hazelton, Pa., entered into 
the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus, whom he loved and served faithfully 
throughout his life, Thurs-day, May 13, 2010, in Corpus Christi, Texas.

He is the beloved husband of Jackie Krumm; loving father of Ted Krumm (wife 
Lisa) of Slidell, Heidi Lacko (husband Pete) and the late Cheryl Krumm; 
grandfather of Jason (wife Missy), Justin and Matthew Krumm and Peter and 
Jessica Lacko; and brother of Lois, Carol, Joseph and the late Charles.

Krumm served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War and was 
an avid bowler.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a memorial at 1 p.m. 
Friday at Free United Methodist Church, 6815 Lake View Drive, Corpus Christi.

Gail Reuter Mayer lost her courageous battle with cancer on Wednesday, May 19, 
2010. She was born October 17, 1948.

Beloved wife of Dennis Mayer. Loving mother of Daniel May (Maribel) and Shane 
May (Wendy). Daughter of Ethel and Arthur Reuter. Grandmother of Mirella, 
Jonathan, Ethan, Corey and Brennan. Sister of Artie Reuter (Susan) and Mark 
Reuter (Alana).

Age 61, a native of New Orleans and a resident of Covington, LA, and a 1966 
graduate of John McDonogh High School in New Orleans. Gail was Activities 
Director, a job she dearly loved, for the Independent Residents at Christwood 
Retirement Community. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend 
funeral services on Monday, May 24, 2010 at 11:00 AM from the Chapel at E.J. 
Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W. 21st. Ave., Covington, LA 70433 with visitation

MUENCH

Clemens Muench Jr., 77, of Pearl River, passed away Monday, May 17, 2010. 

He was a retired bridge tender with the state of Louisiana, a job which he loved 
doing, a U.S. Navy veteran and an avid gardener.

He is survived by two sons, Clemens P. Muench III and Calvin R. Gerbitz; three 
daughters, Camille Muench Shipley, Tammy Muench Henderson and Melody Willson 
Pellegrin; a sister, Eleanor Cassanova; and a host of grandchildren and great-
grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Muench; parents, Clemens and Camille 
Muench Sr.; and a son, Darrell Lee Willson.

He was loved by everyone and cared for all of his neighbors and loved to make 
everyone laugh.

The funeral service is at noon Saturday at D.T. Williams Funeral Home, 67525 
Louisiana Highway 41, Pearl River. Visitation is from 9 a.m. until service time.

He was the beloved son of Sylvia Marie Planche Hatfield and the late Harold

ROBERTSON, GORDON MITCHELL 
(February 17, 1941 - May 20, 2010)

Gordon Mitchell Robertson passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 20, 2010 after 
a long and courageous battle with cancer.

He was a loving father to David Robertson and Amy Robertson, father-in-law of 
Amanda Robertson and grandfather of Maddie and Stella Robertson. Gordon was born 
to Robert and Jean Robertson on February 17, 1941 in Pantucket, R.I. He was 
preceded in death by his siblings Robert Robertson, Barbara Little, Meg Miller, 
and Ruth Dowling. He is survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends. Gordon 
had a special place in his heart for the Vasterling, McDaniel, Dietrich, and 
Pettavino families, who remain honored to have had Gordon in their lives.

Gordon was a proud graduate of the University of Florida and an enthusiastic 
supporter of the Florida Gators. He was employed by the New Orleans Fair Grounds 
for many years and most recently by Toledano & Herrin. He will be remembered for 
his humble manner, generous nature, and loving disposition. He was an 
inspiration to each who met him.

Alta McDaniel Coerver, 83, a native and resident of Slidell, died Saturday, May 
22nd. 

Born on June 6, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Patrick Aloysius McDaniel 
and the late Iona Buckley McDaniel. 

Many of her early years were spent in the Baton Rouge area where she graduated 
Baton Rouge High School and attended LSU. 

Making her home in Slidell, she was an active member of Guardians of Slidell 
History (GOSH), and of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Patrick 
McDaniel, Jr. 

She is survived by her four children, Susan Coerver Creed and husband Rick of 
Los Angeles, CA, Jo Anne (Joey) Coerver Mann and husband Bronson of Houston, TX, 
John Joseph (Skip) Coerver, Jr. and wife Abby of Katy,TX, and Randal (Randy) 
Patrick Coerver of Atlanta, GA. Seven grandchildren also survive her. They are 
Christopher Creed and wife Ann, Scott Creed, Travis Creed, Geoffrey Mann, 
Lindsay Mann, Patrick Coerver and Katherine(Katie)Coerver. In addition, she is 
survived by two sisters, Lela McDaniel and Mary Alice McDaniel Gilmore.

Diane Elizabeth Jordan, age 67 of Covington, LA passed away on May 22, 2010.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Elsie Haskell.

She graduated High School in Washburn, Maine in 1960 and attended Nursing School 
at McLean Hospital in Belmont, Mass, where she earned her nursing degree in 
1964. She was a nurse in the Air Force Reserves with rank of Captain. She nursed 
in Boston and Monte Vista, Colorado and was Director of Public Health in 
Saguache, Colorado until retirement in 2003.

Her loving husband Jack Jordan, MD survives her in the home. In addition she is 
survived by one son, Christopher (Laura) Small and granddaughter Eleanor of 
Marblehead, Mass; her sister, Virginia (Richard) Appleby of Lawrenceville, GA, 
nieces Karen and Lisa, nephews Steven and Danny and their families. She is also 
survived by three step-daughters, Janet (Eric) Jones of Covington, LA; Valista 
(Jim) Jones of Denton, TX; Doris (Dale) Alber of Pueblo, Colo; five 
grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Saturday May 29, 2010 at 2:00 PM with a 
gathering beginning at 1:00 PM at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home in Covington, LA.

Burton Erminger Sr., 82 of Slidell, passed away Friday, May 21, 2010. 

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and was an auto mechanic most of his life.

He is survived by his wife, Valerie Erminger; two sons, Burton Erminger Jr. and 
Barry Erminger Sr.; six grandchildren Wyatt Edward Erminger, Barry Emile 
Erminger Jr., Rachael Fleckinger, Amanda Fleckinger, Heidi Fleckinger and Taylor 
Dean Erminger; and four great-grandchildren, Amara, Olivia, Austin and Allison.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh and Hilda Erminger Sr.; daughter, 
Sharon Fleckinger; and two brothers, Hugh Burnell Erminger Jr. and Richard 
Ernest Erminger.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic 
Church, 400 Westchester Blvd., Slidell. Visitation will be from 9:30-10:30 a.m. 
Interment to follow at 1:30 p.m. in the VA Biloxi National Cemetery in Biloxi 
with Miss. The Rev. Frank Lipps officiating.

Crystal Leann Holeman departed this life Sunday morning, May 16, 2010.

She left behind her loving daughter, Alexis Holeman; and her father, George

Meghan Buras Manton passed away on May 23, 2010. A life resident of Folsom, she 
was born June 6, 1991 in Covington, LA.

The beloved daughter of Norman J. Manton, Jr. and Sherrie Buras Manton, she is 
now joined with her late brother, David J. Manton, who passed away last week. 
She was the granddaughter of Donna Bulloch Buras, Norman Jay, Sr. and Alma 
Michon Manton and the late Leon C. Buras, Jr. She was the niece of A. Wayne and 
Millie Buras, Leon C. "Buddy" Buras, III, Nicholas L., Nathan J., Naomi L. and 
Nolan J. Manton and the late Sherrie Rodwig Buras. She is also survived by 
countless cousins, extended family and friends.

Sunshine illuminated Meghan and followed her everywhere. Rescuing stray animals 
and her diligent display of the peace symbol were examples of the size of her 
heart, her passion to share peace and her love for all God's creatures. She had 
a tremendous love for her brother David, through two separate tragic accidents 
they were only apart for eight days. One of Meghan's favorite quotes helps to 
define her philosophy of life, "Dream as if you'll live forever, Love as if 
there's no tomorrow, Live today as if you're dying"... May they rest in peace.

Eric Rogers Johnson made his transition from this earthly life Thursday, May 20, 
2010. He was born to Rogers and Brunetta Johnson Nov. 1, 1969, in Slidell. He 
was the youngest of three children. Eric accepted Christ at an early age at 
Little Zion Missionary Baptist Church and was baptized by the Rev. Isaiah Avery.

He leaves to mourn his departure and cherish his memory, his mother, Brunetta 
Johnson; father, Rogers Johnson; brother, Tyrone Johnson; sons, Jordan, Ryan, 
Eric, Tyler and Todd; daughter, Ashleigh; grandmother, Arthel; niece, Faith; 
nephew Mark; sister-in-law, Angela; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and 
friends.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Rhonda.

Eric graduated from Pearl River High School May 26, 1989, and received a track 
scholarship to Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond.

After a year at SLU, Eric entered basic training with the U.S. Army and worked 
as a petroleum supply specialist with the Army Reserve for two years.

Relatives and friends are invited to the funeral services at 10 a.m. today at 
Little Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 62129 N. 13th St., Slidell, with the Rev. 
Johnnie Pittman Jr. officiating. Visitation is from 9-10 a.m. Interment will be 
in the Little Zion Cemetery immediately following services. And there will be a 
repast at the church following the interment.

Etta Ruth Singletary, 74, of Pearl River, passed away Friday, May 21, 2010, at 
her home. She was a retired bus driver with the St. Tammany Parish School Board 
and a member of Evans Creek Baptist Church.

She is survived by her loving husband, Richard Singletary; three children, 
Richard Marty Singletary, Darlene Williams and Kenny Singletary; two brothers, 
Roy and Richard Polk; one sister, Vivian Cochran; seven grandchildren, Shelly, 
Toni, Courtney, Shane, Sheree, Hubba and Bobby; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Warren and Nettie Gaines; her 
parents, James and Ellnora Polk; and one daughter, Becky Lynne Singletary.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at D.T. Williams Funeral Home, 
67525 Louisiana Highway 41, Pearl River. Interment will be in Charter Oak 
Cemetery in Pearl River. Brother Hershel to be officiating.

Albert Luther Tullis died peacefully at home Sunday, May 23, 2010, surrounded by 
those he loved most.

He is survived by his wife, Martha Nell, who shared his life for 64 years; his 
children, Salenah Cooper, Barbara King, Luther D. Tullis and Albert R. Tullis; 
nine grandchildren, Timothy Cooper, Angela Lambert, Daniel Tullis, Cassandra 
Dawson, Kimberly Smith, Cassandra Smith, Anthony Tullis, Salenah Tullis and John 
Tullis; 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Albert was born Aug. 15, 1926, and proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World 
War II on a destroyer in the Atlantic. 

He wore many hats during his lifetime as a construction worker, auto mechanic, 
handyman, animal lover; but his most important role was as husband, father and 
grandfather. He was the rock of our family and we will miss him greatly.

Friends and relatives are invited to pay their respects at 7 p.m. today at 
Williams Funeral Home in Pearl River. Visitation will begin at 6 p.m.

Bettye Coleman Artz Driskell, a retired registered nurse died at her home in 
Mandeville, LA on Thursday, May 27, 2010.

She was born in Memphis, TN on August 18, 1935. She was preceded in death by her 
husband, Bob Driskell, of Memphis; her parents, Dorothy Burnett and Thad 
Coleman; her brother, Ronald "Bubba" Coleman; and her half-brother, Jimmy 
Coleman. She was the loving mother of Rusty Artz (wife Melody) of Memphis, TN, 
Jenni Artz of Lacombe, LA, Bettye Artz Champagne of Mandeville, LA and Bill Artz 
(wife Debbie) of Northlake, TX all by her first husband, Bill Artz of Altoona, 
PA. She was also survived by 7 grandchildren, Joshua, Natashia, Rebecca, Andrew, 
Jonathan, Janie and Amanda; and 3 great-grandchildren, Elian, Arianna and Aniah.

Bettye loved crafts and gardening and was constantly creating handmade gifts for 
those she loved.

Grandfather of Nicole, Ashley and great-grandfather of Hannah Marie Juno.

Elwood Junot and Mervin Junot.

Mr. Juno was a native Algiers and a resident of Abita Springs since 1984. He was 
a WW II veteran of the U.S. Navy, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 
8720, retired from the New Orleans Public Schools, a member A.U. Petersen F.& 
A.M. and Past Master.

RITA WIRE MANALE passed away at Slidell Memorial Hospital on Thursday May 27, 
2010, age 91 years. 

Rita was a native of New Orleans and a resident of Slidell, Louisiana for the 
past 21 years. She retired from the New Orleans Public School System on June 1, 
1979, spending her years of service as a secretary at Nichols and Abramson High 
Schools. As a dedicated Presbyterian, she was a life long member of Claiborne 
Avenue Presbyterian Church in New Orleans and later as a member of First 
Presbyterian Church in Slidell. 

Rita spent many hours in community service as a volunteer with the Slidell 
Memorial Hospital Hospice Program, attended XYZ and Sunshine Club functions. 

Beloved wife of the late Joseph S. Manale, daughter of the late Teresea Kuntz 
Wire and the late Clarence G. Wire, sister of the late Alfred E. Wire. She is 
survived by her children: Cynthia Manale McGlone-Miller and Bernard Manale; 
grandchildren: Christopher P. McGlone, Stefanie D. Garcia, Jessica L. Manale, 
and Justin J. Nunez; four Great Grandchildren: Karli L. McGlone, Aubrey 
A.Garcia, C. Eric Garcia, and Natalie D. Garcia; a sister-in-law: Lillie M. 
Blauvelt and many nieces and nephews.

He was born January 12, 1941 in Roan Mountain, TN to the late Joseph, Sr. and 
Delia Luntsford Brown and was a resident of Covington.

The beloved husband of Anne Andollina Clement Brown, he is survived by four 
children, Robert Brown, Jr., Shelly Brown, James "Chip" Clement (Brenda), Robin 
L. Couste`; his son-in-law, John Couste`; one sister, Shirley Kimball; three 
brothers: Joseph Brown, Jr. (Bobbie Jack), David Tucker (Elizabeth) and Richard 
"Fred" Tucker (Florence); four grandchildren: Robert Nicholas and Patrick Brown, 
John "J.J." (Amanda) and Jeremy Couste` (Melissa) and two great-grandchildren, 
Peyton and Kaylee Couste`. He was preceded in death by three sisters: Bertha 
Birchfield, Frances Waters, Clara Gardner and one brother, Grady Brown.

Robert was a Deputy on the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office for 26 years and 
reached the rank of Sergeant before his retirement. A veteran of the U.S. Army, 
he served his country from 1958-1962, was a member of the Fraternal Order of 
Police and an active member of the American Legion Post 16.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend funeral services at

Home in Slidell with her family at her side.

She is survived by a daughter, Sandra C. Ducote; two grandchildren, Jim Venable 
and Pollyanna Cook; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel James Crabtree; her parents, 
Henry F. and Beulah R. Kistner; a brother, Henry P. Kistner; and sister, Dorthea 
C. Powell.

Graveside services were held yesterday at Lakelawn Metairie Mausoleum, Metairie, 
with Bishop Dohm officiating.

great-grandchildren. Her husbands, Eugene F. Swayne, Sr. and John W. Dunlavy 
precede her in death.

Private memorial services were held at the family's residence. Cremation

James Lagrange Griffin passed away on Friday, May 28, 2010.

Beloved and devoted husband of Gayle Hawkins Meisler Griffin. Step father of 
John D. Meisler, Jr. and the late Marguerite Meisler Keyes and James Martin 
Meisler; Father-in law of Cillen E. Meisler and George A. Keyes; also survived 
by 4 grandchildren: Michelle K. Soliman, Heather M. Keyes, J. Daniel Meisler, 
III and Alexandra R. Meisler. Son of the late Dr. James MacArthur Griffin and 
Olga Lagrange Griffin Ray.

A lifelong resident of New Orleans and Mandeville, Mr. Griffin served with the 
U. S. Navy during World War II. He was a retired regional sales representative 
with Dundee Mills, Inc. Mr. Griffin unselfishly gave back to the community he so 
loved. He was a 4th degree Knight of Columbus and a member of the Mary Queen of 
Peace Catholic Church Ushers' Society. He was Past President and active Board 
member of St. Tammany Historical Society, an AARP Driver's Safety Program 
Instructor and a volunteer in numerous community activities. Mr. Griffin was the 
benefactor of the James L. Griffin Collection of the Tulane University Randolph 
Matas Medical Library. He was a graduate of St. Aloyusius High School and 
attended Tulane University. An avid antique car collector and enthusiast, Jim 
took the most pleasure in driving his perennial prize winning 1930 Packard while 
always looking to restore a new challenge. He was also a member of the Horseless 
Carriage Club and the Northlake A's, and other antique car organizations. Jim 
was always the perfect gentleman possessing a wonderful sense of humor and a 
remarkably positive attitude. He loved the theater, fine restaurants, spending 
time with friends and sharing engaging stories of the colorful history of his 
New Orleans with eagerly awaiting family.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to celebrate the Mass of 
Christian Burial at Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 1501 West Causeway

MARCIA ANN KESLER MANGIARACINA, passed away on Friday, May 28 after a two year 
struggle with liver disease. 

She will be greatly missed by her soul mate, August (Chip) Mangiaracina with 
whom she shared 44 years of marriage. 

She was a native of New Orleans and a resident of Slidell since 1979. 

Daughter of Herbert C. Kesler and the late Mary A. Varner Kesler. Mother of the 
late Michelle (Missy) Cummings and Michael Mangiaracina. Grandmother of 
Christina Cummings and Stephen Mangiaracina and sister of Mark Kesler, Sr. and 
Dr. Glen Kesler. Marcia's journey through life took her from CYO softball as a 
teenager to starting her work career with Boeing at Michoud in New Orleans. She 
then married Chip and they moved to Huntsville, Alabama. Shortly after, she 
moved back to New Orleans where her daughter Michelle was born. Then on to 
Houston, TX, with Chip, where son Michael was born and she spent the next ten 
years raising children, playing sports, enjoying friends and attending Alvin 
junior college where she received an Associate in Computer Science degree and 
working for McDonnell Douglas. Life then brought her to Slidell, LA and working 
for Lockheed Martin as a Database Administrator until she left to be a full time 
housewife, avid bowler and loving mother to her family and the puppies she loved 
so dearly. She also had a great fondness for frequent trips to Destin, where she 
loved the relaxing comfort of the white sand and the gulf waves on the shore. 

Special thanks to the nurses and aides at Northshore hospital who gave her 
special loving care and comfort during her too frequent hospital stays during 
her last two years. 

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral. A Funeral 
Mass will be celebrated at Honaker Funeral Home, 1751 Gause Blvd West, in 
Slidell, on Thursday, June 3, 2010, at 1:30pm. Friends may visit the funeral

Roger James Hogan passed away on Saturday, May 29, 2010. He was born in New 
Orleans to the late Ralph Raymond, Sr. and Neva Brown Hogan and has been a 
resident of Mandeville since 1982.

The beloved husband of Lois Olsen Hogan, he is survived by one sister, Neva 
Hogan Sherry; his brother, Ralph Ramond Hogan, Jr.; two nieces, Sharyn Michelle 
and Nicole Marie Campbell; 11 brothers and sisters-in-law, 15 nieces and 
nephews-in-law; numerous great nieces and nephews-in-law; cousins and many 
friends. He also leaves behind his beloved cat, Pavarotti.

Roger was a proud Boy Scout in his younger years. He graduated from Prytania 
Private School in 1971 and attended UNO. He was an amateur meteorologist and was 
inspired at an early age by Nash Roberts. For over 25 years, he was employed by 
Acadian Millwork and Supply Company; at the time of his illness, he was acting 
Chief Information Officer and Purchasing Director for the company. Never without 
a project (or projects); he was skilled and crafty with his hands and was an 
avid fisherman.

George A. Brandt, Jr., age 81, died Sunday, May 30, 2010 at his Lafayette 
County, MS home.

Born June 1, 1928, in Toledo, Ohio, he grew up ice skating and ice fishing on 
Lake Michigan. He earned a B.S. from University of Toledo, served in the Ohio 
National Guard and the U.S. Army intelligence aerial photography operations 
during the Korean War at Fort Polk, LA. 

Preferring the warmth of Louisiana to Ohio, after discharge, he earned an M.S. 
in geography from LSU, met his wife of 55 years, Frances Dutsch, and lived in 
Baker, LA for 50 years before moving to Mississippi after retirement from the LA 
Dept of Transportation where he worked on the first 30 years of developing 
interstate highways. 

He was an avid horticulturist, grower of azaleas and camellias, and a member and 
judge for the American Camellia Society.

He is survived by his wife Frances, three daughters and one son: Katherine 
Barroll of Lexington, SC, Mary Jensen of Oxford, MS, Mark Brandt of Pontotoc, MS 
and Virginia Brandt of St. Francisville, LA, two sons-in-law Leeds Barroll and 
Patrick Jensen, four grandchildren Joseph and Agnes Barroll, and Marie and Eric 
Brandt Rider, one uncle, numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews 
and great grand nieces and nephews.

He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Oxford, MS.

Visitation will be held Friday, June 4, 2010 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the 
Waldheim Methodist Church, Waldheim, LA followed by funeral services at the 
Church at 1:00 p.m., then commitment and military honors at grave side with 
internment in the Waldheim Church Cemetery.

The family requests memorial donations to Bodock Grove - North Mississippi 
Regional Center, 967 Regional Center Drive, Oxford, Mississippi 38655 in lieu of 
flowers. 

Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
