He was born March 12, 1923 to the late Roger Noble and Ruth Collins Salter and has been a life resident of Covington. The beloved husband of the late Lynne Blanchin Salter, he is survived by two daughters, Debbie S. Mendow (John) and Barbara S. Myers (Taul); two sons, Roger N. Salter III and Stephen M. "Squeak" Salter and one brother, Joseph W. "Jack" Salter; eight grandchildren: John (Karen), Stephen (Gina), Jeffery (Niki), Patrick, Brad and Ryan (Sara) Mendow, Casey and Remi Myers; two great- grandchildren, Anna and Max Mendow and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Jeanne L. Salter and Ruth Ellen Sevy. A graduate of St. Paul's School with the Class of 1942, he was inducted into their Athletic Hall of Fame for his accomplishments in football and basketball. He joined the Army in 1943 and was deployed during WW II to the European and Asiatic Pacific Theatres where he served for 10 months with the Black Hawks 86th Infantry Division. He was awarded the Bronze Star and the Bronze Star Medal for his courage in battle and was honorably discharged in 1946 as Staff Sergeant. He then went to work for Citizens Bank in Covington providing them with 64 years of faithful service. He held various positions including Senior Vice-President from 1968-1991, member of the Board of Directors and at the time of his death, Board of Directors Emeritus. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend funeral mass at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at St. Peter Catholic Church; 128 E. 19th Ave., Covington, LA 70433. Visiting hours at the church will begin at 10:00 AM. Interment at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens will immediately follow mass. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Covington Food Bank, 840 N. Columbia St., Covington, LA 70433. ===================
