Please go to http://usgwarchives.net/la/sttammany/obits/dateobits/2010/st1007.htm and click to view list of photos. ========== Merriman "Don" Diven, a retired Special Agent of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Past President of the Covington Rotary Club, and local real estate agent, died at home of natural causes. He was eighty-seven. Prior to his joining the FBI, Don was in the trucking, coal, and contracting business in Baltimore, Maryland. He was recognized by the FBI for outstanding service in New York City and Newark, New Jersey prior to being assigned to the New Orleans area in 1963. His talent for relentless pursuit of subjects and "cold cases" gained him the nickname of "Digger" by his co-workers. He had a special talent for aligning the law enforcement interests of Federal, State and local agencies and was instrumental in creating a greater degree of trust and cooperation among all law enforcement disciplines on the Northshore. Don was a WWII Coast Guard veteran and, in 1953, was a graduate of the University of Baltimore, earning both a Bachelor of Laws and a Juris Doctor Degree. He was a long time member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Covington, Louisiana and a former member of the U. S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, where he received numerous awards for his voluteer service. He was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Christine Blanche Diven, and is survived by son Gregory Diven of Bountiful, Utah and daughter Cathy Fehlis of Pinehurst, Texas. He also leaves five grand children and eight great-grand children. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend funeral services on Monday, August 2, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 1 N. Marigold Drive, Covington, LA 70433. Visitation AT THE CHURCH on Monday will begin at 9:00 AM. Interment will follow at Pinecrest Memoral Gardens in Covington, LA. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations to Campus Crusade for Christ, Post Office Box 628222, Orlando, Florida 32862-8222 or the charity of ones choice. ===================
