Russell Wayne Garrett, of Slidell, 38, passed away Thursday, July 15, 2010, due 
to an auto/bicycle accident.

He was the son of Peggy Smith Garrett and Rodney Gregg Garrett, Sr.; grandson of 
Russell E. Garrett and the late Dorothy Garrett and Doris Smith and the late 
Preston J. Smith Sr.; and brother of Rodney G. Garrett Jr. (Teresa) and Scott M. 
Garrett (Nicole). He is also survived by two nephews and a niece, Tristan 
Garrett, Ericka and Evan Garrett; and several aunts and uncles.

A native of Barksdale Air Force Base, Bossier City, was a long time resident of 
Slidell and was a resident of Philadelphia.

He was a 1989 graduate of Northshore High School. He was a graduate of USL in 
Lafayette and the University of Rochester where he received his Ph.D. He was a 
research scientist and professor doing stem cell research at Haverford College 
in Philadelphia.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral Mass at 
noon Saturday at Honaker Funeral Home, 1751 Gause Blvd. West (in Forest Lawn 
Cemetery), Slidell, with the Rev. Adrian Hall, as celebrant. Visitation is 
begins at 10 a.m. Interment is in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
