Loving mother of Jens Lorenz and Rainer Lorenz (Shay) Daughter of the late Vladislaus Winkler of Rominten, Prussia and Marta Erdmann Winkler of Laegerdorf, Germany. Sister of the late Hermann Winkler, Wilhelm Winkler, Klara Winkler and Marta Winkler Blassies. Grandmother of Erik Lorenz, Ingrid Lorenz Yancey(Jamie), Karin Lorenz Crosby (Jay), Andrew Lorenz, Amanda Lorenz Phillips (Jimmy), Alexander Lorenz (Wendy) and Mary Lorenz Smith (Johnston). Great-grandmother of Erik, Markus, Sophia, Ashleigh, Kaitlyn, and Jackson. Born in 1920, she was educated in Germany, excelling in track and field, and gymnastics as a young girl. She married Hans H. Lorenz in 1941. In 1952 she emigrated with her husband and two sons from northern Germany to Valley, Nebraska, to begin a new life. She lived in Sioux City, Iowa, Green Bay and Appleton, Wisconsin, before moving to New Orleans and Mandeville, Louisiana in 1981, joining her children and grandchildren. Always a competitive and athletic personality, Ellen excelled at tennis, swimming and was a fixture at Franco's Athletic Club well into her eighties. She was devoted to her family and will be dearly missed by all. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 22, 2010. Visitation will be at 10:00 am, Service at 11:00 am in the chapel at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W. 21st. Ave., Covington, LA 70433. Internment will follow immediately at Mandeville City Cemetery.
