Her final days were spent surrounded by family and friends that she had touched throughout her short, yet memorable life. Laura was born March 1, 1952 to the late Clarence Penn Sr. and Juanita Oden Penn. Laura grew up in Covington, and having parents who loved the Lord, she was taught the ways of Christianity. She was baptized at the Greater Starlight Baptist church by the Rev. Coleman Callahan and continued to serve under the Rev. Mallery Callahan Sr. She served on the Mission Board and attended Sunday school. She was a member of the Northlake First Assembly of God under the leadership of the Rev. Jonathan Ziegler. She later united with Victory Bible Church under the leadership of the Rev. Fredrick Young Sr. She attended church faithfully until her illness. Laura graduated from Covington High School in 1971. She was employed by St. Tammany Parish Hospital as a nurse's aide. She was united in marriage to the late Gary Emmanuel Vick Jr., and to this union two children were born, Cassandra Stokes and Rodney Vick. She was preceded in death by an infant son; her father; three brothers, Clarence Jr., her twin brother, Larry, James; and one sister, Ruby Mae. She leaves to cherish her memory, her two children; two grandchildren, Hannah and Floyd Stokes Jr.; her loving mother; seven brothers, Johnny Lee, Willester, Robert (Beaulah), Bernard (Melodie), Earl, Melvin (Glenis) and Carey (Keisha); five sisters, Hazel, Linda (Fred), Irma, Barbara and Marylyn and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. Relatives and friends are invited to the funeral service at noon today at the Starlight Baptist Church, 521 28th Ave., Covington with the Rev. Mallory Callahan officiating. Interment will be in the Wilson Cemetery. ===================
