King, 74, of New Orleans, passed away Sunday, Aug. 15, 2010, in Mandeville after a battle with Alzheimer's disease and cancer. He was born May 16, 1936 in St. Clair Shores, Mich., and was a long time resident of the New Orleans area. He was a U.S. Army veteran and spent most of his professional career in the aerospace industry in contracts administration, but his true passion was playing music, and he was a veteran of the local music scene playing saxophone, clarinet and vibraphones with popular local bands going back to the 1960's. He is survived by his two sons, Gary King of Tampa, Fla., Steve King of Mandeville, daughters-in-law Kelly King of Tampa and Rhonda King of Mandeville; four grandchildren; Devon, ReneŽ, Jeremy and Ryan King; sister Gail Spencer of Daytona, Fla.; nieces Michelle and Rochell; nephew, Bryan and also former wife and devoted friend Sandy King. One of King's final wishes was to donate his body to Alzheimer's research. Memorial donations may be made in his honor through the Alzheimer's Association at: act.alz.org/goto/Dwight.King. He also requested that a celebration of life memorial service be held in lieu of a funeral ceremony. Friends and family will be notified of the time and location in the coming weeks. ===================
