She was 86. Rose was born in Weston, WV, the first child of Bessie Irene Sine and Ernest Henry Keifer. She married August Alfano in 1952 until his death in 1986, She married John Laman in 1990 until his death. Rose was a licensed practical nurse who worked for many years in south Florida. In 1990 she served in the Peace Corp in Sierra Leone, west Africa. She volunteered on the Broward County, Florida MediVan project to take health care to uninsured senior citizens. She also donated many hours to the St. Tammany Parish Friends of the Library. Rose was an avid quilter, with many friends that shared her love of sewing. She is survived by her two children, Sam Alfano and his wife Abigail, of Covington, LA, and Michele Alfano Simons and her husband Lyle, of Durham, North Carolina. She had three grandchildren, Samuel Clayton Alfano and his wife Danielle, of Slidell, LA, Jessica Rose Simons and Dustin Christopher Simons of Durham, NC. She has four great-grandchildren, Alexis, Hannah, Carley and Ethan Alfano. Rose was beloved by her large extended family of step children and grandchildren, half brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews. She was especially close to three nieces who became as dear to her as though they were her own daughters-Trena Keifer Topper, of Florida, Rose Alfano Labiak and Grace Alfano Brown of Michigan. The family would like to express our deepest gratitude to Paula White, RN, of Tucson, AZ. Paula was Rose's closest friend, and she provided loving care and tender attention to Rose for the past two months. Her devotion allowed Rose to pass away in the comfort of her own home, as was her heartfelt desire. We are indebted to Paula for her immense kindness, not only to our beloved Rose, but also to the family. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Hospice Compassus, or to St. Benedict Catholic Church in Covington. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the memorial mass on Thursday, August 5, 2010 at 6:00 PM at St. Benedict Catholic Church, 20307 Smith Rd., Covington, LA 70435. ===================
