Please go to http://usgwarchives.net/la/sttammany/obits/dateobits/2010/st1009.htm and click to view list of photos. ========== Mary Elizabeth Phelps Bickers was born Oct. 14, 1931, and passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2010, at Christwood Retirement Community in Covington, La. She was 78. Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 58 years, Dr. John Nelson Bickers. Mother of Joan Karen Bickers Dearing, of Mandeville, La., John Michael Bickers, of North Palm Beach, Fla., and David Nelson Bickers, of White Plains, Ga. Daughter of the late Lois Mealor Phelps and Willie F. Phelps, of Greensboro, Ga. Sister of Helen Phelps Mims and sister-in-law of Dr. George T. Mims, of Kennesaw, Ga. Grandmother of Paul Tyler Dearing, Casey Elizabeth Dearing, Catherine Elaine Dearing, Justin Michael Bickers and Hunter Austin Bickers, step-grandmother of Andrea Bickers Myers and Lenzy Barber. Mother-in-law of Mark Howard Dearing, Judy Gibson Bickers and Denise Bradley Bickers. Mary was a native of Greensboro, Ga. and resided in Louisiana since 1957, most recently in Covington at Christwood Retirement Community. Mrs. Bickers was a 1952 graduate of Georgia College & State University in Milledgeville, Ga., where she graduated with Honors, receiving a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics Education. Mrs. Bickers was a member of John Calvin Presbyterian Church in Metairie, La., a previous member of LSU Health Sciences Center New Orleans Faculty Wives Club, Country Club Homes Garden Club, Maned Downs Garden Club, and a member of Rambling Rose Gardeners. Mary treasured her family and friends, and we treasured her. Life is not the same without her. Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life memorial service Saturday, Oct. 9, at 10:30 a.m. at Christwood Retirement Community garden room, 100 Christwood Blvd., Covington, La., 70433. (985) 898-0515. A brief remembrance ceremony and prayer will be conducted by the Rev. Robert E. Malsbary and Rev. Harry A. Brown. Burial will be in a private ceremony at Centennial Christian Church in White Plains, Ga. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to John Calvin Presbyterian Church, Christwood Retirement Community, or the charity of your choice. ===================
