Please go to http://usgwarchives.net/la/sttammany/obits/dateobits/2010/st1009.htm and click to view list of photos. ========== JOSEPH EDWARD GROS JR, COMMANDER, UNITED STATES NAVY, born in New Orleans, LA on May 21, 1938, entered into his eternal rest on September 13, 2010 at his home after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Beloved husband of Joan Coldewy Gros of 49 years, father of four children, Leslie Maniglia (Craig), Jennifer Cannon, Joseph E. Gros III (Debbi) and Christopher Gros, and Poppie to Danielle, Brittany, Morgan, Sydney and Hayden Maniglia, Lindsay, Nicholas, Stephen and Hailey Cannon, Alexandra, Joseph IV and David Gros. Son of the late Joseph E. Gros and the late Marion Graf Gros. Also survived by his sisters, Sheryl Gros and Geryl Diodene (Russell) and sisters-in- law Phyllis Landrieu (Joseph) and Elaine Boudreaux and many nieces and nephews. Graduate of De La Salle High School, class of 1956, attended Tulane University and proudly served his nation for 30 years during the Cold War as an aviator in the United States Navy, retiring as a Commander. He returned to Louisiana upon his retirement where he resided in Slidell since 2004. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. His passions included golf, fishing, cooking, Mardi Gras and football. His family is grateful for the kind care given by Slidell Kidney Care, Dr. Oliver Sartor and the Tulane Cancer Center, Hospice Compassus and the prayers of the Slidell Newcomers Club and the parishioners of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Friends and relatives are invited to attend the visitation at 11:00am, on Saturday, September 18, 2010, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 325 Westchester Blvd, Slidell LA 70458. Funeral Mass will be held at 12:00 noon. Internment with full military honors will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Our Lady of Lourdes St. Vincent de Paul Society, 325 Westchester Place, Slidell LA 70458.
