Please go to http://usgwarchives.net/la/sttammany/obits/dateobits/2010/st1009.htm and click to view list of photos. ========== JOHN MORRIS MIRE, a native of Slidell, LA and a resident of Picayune, MS for the past 6 years, died on Sunday, September 19, 2010 at his home after a courageous battle with liver cancer. His love and zeal for God, his church, and his family and friends, made a lasting impression on all those who were touched by his warmth, sincerity, kindness and joy. He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Kathleen Minnaert Mire; his son John Andrew "Drew" Mire and wife Melanie; his grandchildren, Jacob Shine Mire, Christian Joel Mire, and Jace Andrew Mire; his siblings, Julius Mire, Jr. (Annette), James Mire (Linda), Bobby Mire (Susan), Jan Felder (Michael), and Paul Mire (Debbie); his mother-in-law, Carol K. Minnaert; his brother-in-law Larry Minnaert (Elise); his sister-in-law Paulette Pondish (Paul); his son-in- law John T. Dorsa, Jr. and also many nieces, nephews, dear friends and relatives. He is preceded in death by his parents, Julius A. "Shine" Mire, Sr. and Ethel R. Mire; his daughter, Laura Ann Mire Dorsa and his brother Thomas H. Mire. Mr. Mire was a 1964 graduate of Slidell High School. He served his country in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. He received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Southeastern Louisiana University. He was a Teacher and Assistant Principal at Boyet Junior High School from 1974-1983 where he received the Principal's Award in 1980. He was the Principal of Slidell Junior High School from 1983-1994 where he received the Principal of the Year Award in 1993. Along with his wife, he was a parishioner of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church where together they were leaders of Marriage Encounter in Slidell. They were also the founding leaders of the Embrace Youth Group and recipient's of the "Order of St. Louis" Medal in 1992 which is given by the Archbishop of New Orleans. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral mass at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, 1050 Robert Blvd., Slidell, LA on Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at 11:00AM. Visitation will be held at church from 9:00AM until 11:00AM. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Donations to: St. Margaret Mary School, Slidell, LA, St. Charles Borromeo School Fund, Picayune, MS or St.'s Peter and Paul Church, Pearl River, LA are preferred, in lieu of flowers. ===================
