Mary Lou Nesmith Risher, of Lacombe, passed away Monday, Aug. 30, 2010.

She was the beloved wife of the late Jack Prosperous Risher and mother of Thomas 
R. Bishop II and Frances Bishop Faber. She is also survived by five 
grandchildren.

A native of Tulsa, Okla., she was a fine artist who specialized in portraits and 
landscapes and was a private teacher in pastels and oils.

She studied at Columbia University, the Univerisity of Houston and the 
Univerisity of Washington. She also did private studies with James Jennings, 
Opal Walls, Ruth Pershing Uhler and Lowell Collins. She did one-woman shows in 
Washington, Alabama and Texas and group shows in Bellevue Arts Fair, Washington.

Her work is represented in permanent collections in First Baptist Church, 
Houston, the Unitarian Church in Huntsville, Ala., and in private and corporate 
collections in the U.S. and Europe. She also executed murals for the Unitarian 
Church in Huntsville, portraits represented at Mary Doerr's images of Austin and 
the Southwest, Austin, Texas. She also received numerous awards for her art. She 
was a member of A.A.U.W., Houston Society of Illustrators, Professional Picture 
Framers' Assn., Phi Kappa Phi, Phi Theta Kappa, and Kappa Delta Phi.

Interment was in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Slidell. Memorial services will be held
