Mrs. Bucklew resided for many years in Haughton, LA and more recently in Walker, Louisiana. She was the widow of Walter E. Bucklew who died in 1986 and is survived by her daughters and their husbands: Betty and Ed Ferrington of Folsom, LA; Martile and James Rowland of Colorado Springs, CO; Karen and Gary Whittemore of Dallas, TX. She also leaves behind grandchildren Cynthia and Boidy Sibley, Tracy Ferrington, Kelli and Dan Williams, Jason and Mandy Hess and five great- grandchildren Kristin Sibley, Matt and Macy Maggert, Jordan and Jena Williams. She has one surviving sister and numerous nieces and nephews. Lu had a thirst for knowledge which led her, at age 40, to go to Southeastern Louisiana College in Hammond, LA where she earned an undergraduate degree in English Education and distinguished herself by graduating at the top of her class. After which she earned a Master's Degree plus 30 at Louisiana State University. She was honored as a SLU Golden Grad at the 2009 graduation ceremonies. Even after retirement from a rewarding career in teaching English and Spanish in high school and community colleges she was called upon to tutor students many times over the years. A celebration of the life of our mother and grandmother will be held on Saturday, October 30, 2010, 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Covington, located at 16333 Highway 1085.
