Mark was born on June 22, 1950 in Shreveport, LA. He was preceded in death by his parents Allen Wendell Lea and Pawnee Patterson Lea of Covington, Louisiana and his brother Jeffery Blaine Lea of Moreno Valley, California. Mark is survived by his wife of 23 years, Lou Anne Powell Lea. He is also survived by his daughter, Andrea Lea Avants of Denham Springs, LA, son-in law Chris Avants son Matthew Allen Lea of Hammond, LA, grandchildren Destiny McMillan of Hammond, LA and Christopher Avants of Denham Springs, LA, sisters Jan Lea Cabirac of Covington, LA and spouse Hewitt "Doc" Cabirac , Bobette Lea Davenport of Monroe, LA and spouse Eric Shelton Davenport, nieces Brooke Lea Davenport and Audrey Lea Davenport of Monroe, LA, and his brother Rhome Wendell Lea of Broken Arrow, OK. Mark was a graduate of Glen Oaks High School in Baton Rouge, LA and graduated from Southeastern Louisiana University. He proudly served our country in the United States Marine Corps. Over the years, Mark served as Assistant Food Service Director at Southeastern Louisiana University, sales with Merchants Company of Hattiesburg, MS and Union National Insurance. He was a member and board member of the Krewe of Perseus in Slidell for many years and reigned as King Perseus XXXII in 2002. Those who knew Mark will remember his passion for life. His strength and fight for life over the past five years was amazing. Those who were touched by him will remember his gentle smile, passion for politics, loyal devotion to the United States Marine Corp, love of LSU football, joy of cooking and undying love and devotion for his wife Lou Anne. The family thanks Dr. Sergio Barrios and the staff of the Louisiana Heart Hospital for the love, support, and care given to Mark. Also sincere appreciation is given to Dr. Roberta Bogaev and the multitude of dedicated doctors and health care staff at the Texas Heart Institute at St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital who supported and cared for Mark during his transplant journey as well as Dr. Stephen Koch and the staff at Acuity Hospital of Houston who cared so much for him while there. Memorial Services will be held at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 360 Robert Boulevard in Slidell, LA on Tuesday, November 23, 2010. Visitation will be from 9:30 am to 11:30 am with services at 11:30 am. Honary pallbearers are Bob Lostetter, David Gonzalez, Chris Crosby, Butch Martin, Mike Cochran, Ken Kuhlmann, Jeff Baker and Jules Hillary. Friends who wish to honor Mark's memory may do so by supporting the programs of the Texas Heart Institute at St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital that provide support to transplant patients and their families.
