He served our country during WW II, was a member of the Veterans of foreign Wars, Slidell Senior Citizens and the Mandeville Boating Association. He was preceded in death by his wife Lillian Moran Lear and Eva Henderson Lear; brothers, Frank, Jr., Buck and Joe; and sister, Edith Camp. He is survived by step-daughter, Sharon Whittington; grandson, Samuel Whittington; nephew, Keith Henderson; nieces, Sally Springrose, Inez Viosca and Madeline Fischer; and special friend, Georgia White. Otway Lear was a man who enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, the company of friends and family. He had a love for cooking and making mayhaw jelly. He was at home in the kitchen always cooking for any and everyone who stopped by. He always carried a harmonica in his back pocket and enjoyed playing it. He was an entertainer of sorts who told his stories over and over again. He had many tricks up his sleeve, his favorite was to tell you how old you were and how much change you had in your pocket by some math equation that always mystified everyone because he was always right. He enjoyed fishing and making crab nets. He so loved passing along his wisdom to his grandson Sam. Life can become so difficult as we get older. The restraints of our aging take a toll on our bodies. Otway Lear spent his last days at Heritage Manor of Mandeville, LA where he enjoyed sitting out on the front porch in a rocker watching the squirrels and playing a tune on his harmonica. His family would like to thank St. Catherine's Hospice, St. Tammany Hospice and Heritage Manor for their gentle and loving care. God bless you Scott, Ann and Jeremy. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend funeral services on Saturday, November 20, 2010 at 3:00 PM from the Chapel at E.J. FIELDING FUNERAL HOME, 2260 W. 21st. Ave., Covington, LA 70433 with visitation on Saturday beginning at 1:00 PM. Interment will follow in Chinchuba Cemetery. ===================
