She was the second of three children. She was preceded in death by her parents, older sister, Magaret Ann and younger sister, Doris. She wed Moses Cooper April 17, 1965. God blessed them both with two children, daughter Wendy and son Cedric. Joyce attended St. Tammany Training School, graduating in May 1962. While at the school, she was crowned Miss. St. Tammany, and she also won the math competition. Joyce graduated from Southern University in Baton Rouge in 1967 with a bachelor's degree in elementary education. In the summer of 1971, she received a Special Education certificate in mental retardation. She was employed at the St. Tammany Parish School Board, where she retired after 37 years of teaching. Joyce was known for her good cooking, sewing and having lots of energy. She was never at a loss for words. She loved working her word search puzzles. She had a deep love for her family, especially her grandchildren. God sent an angel to bring Joyce home to rest Sunday morning, Dec. 12, 2010. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Moses Cooper; daughter Wendy Guidry (Kenneth); son Cedric Cooper (Christina); four grandchildren, Aaron Graves, Briana Cooper, Babrielle Cooper and Ariana Cooper; her favorite aunt, Dora Jackson; cousin, Priscilla Walls; mother-in-law Martha McDonald; brother-in-law Alex McDonald; sisters-in- law, Hilda McDonald and Mary Ann McDonald, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and co-workers Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, 1050 Robert Blvd., Slidell. Visitation is from 8:30 - 10:30 a.m. The Rev. Thomas Kilasara of St. Margaret Mary will officiate. Interment is in Harrison Jackson Square Cemetery. Repast is at Hartzell Mt. Zion United Methodist Church ===================
