The eldest of four children, she was born to Joseph Arthur and Philomene Serpas Rhodes in Biloxi, Miss., Dec. 24, 1913. She grew up in the small fishing village of Violet. Bernadette was in the first graduating class of the first high school in St. Bernard Parish, and went on to graduate from Charity Hospital School of Nursing in 1938. Marshall Lester Peart won her heart, and they married Jan. 7, 1939. Bernadette was a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps in 1944 with an honorable medical discharge. Not one to remain idle, she became actively involved in the Order of the Easter Star, (Past Patron), Daughters of the Nile, and gardening. She became a skilled artist in the medium of oil paints, as well as an accomplished cook. In addition to her parents, Bernadette was preceded in death by her husband; son, Joseph "Sonny" Peart; brothers Warren and J.B. Rhodes and sister Alice Williams. She is survived by her daughter, Marsha Putnan and husband Al; granddaughter Kim Coleman and husband Joel; grandsons Ken Fitzpatrick Jr., Mike and wife Bree, guy and Mark Peart and12 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday and again from 10 -11 a.m. Monday at Vaughan's Funeral Home in Boerne, Texas. Following the Monday services at 11 a.m., interment will be in Mission North Cemetery. ===================
