He was 86. Mr. Anderson, the son of Susie Pryor Anderson and Ernest Anderson, was born in Summit, Georgia and lived in Slidell for the past 50 years. He was a graduate of Emmanual County Institute, Georgia Teachers' College (now Georgia Southern University) and the University of Georgia (Masters Degree). He taught school and coached for several years in Georgia and retired from the Sales Division of Southern Coatings, Inc. in 1989 after a 35-year career. Mr. Anderson was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II. He was also a member of the Slidell Noon Lions Club where he formerly served as a member of the Board of Directors and was a Melvin Jones Award recipient, a charter member of the Rotary Club of Slidell, an active member of First United Methodist Church, a former member of First Baptist Church where he served as Sunday School Teacher, Deacon and Trustee, and a former SYFA coach and member of the Slidell High School Football Boosters Club. He was a former volunteer counselor with Community Christian Concern, volunteer tutor with the St. Tammany Literacy Foundation, and Slidell Memorial Hospital Volunteer. He was a devoted grandfather who enthusiastically supported his grandchildren's various interests. He is survived by two sons, Joseph P. Anderson, Jr. and Ernest S. Anderson, two daughters-in-law, Pamuella B. Anderson and Cecelia L. Anderson, five grandchildren, Joseph P. Anderson, III (Kimberly K. Anderson) James B. Anderson, Emily C. Anderson, Russell L. Anderson and David B. Anderson, and a sister, Dorothy Anderson Savedge. He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Elinor Smith Anderson, and his parents, Susie Pryor Anderson and Ernest Anderson. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral services at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, February 11, 2011, at HONAKER FUNERAL HOME, 1751 Gause Blvd.West (IN FOREST LAWN CEMETERY), Slidell, LA. The Rev. Wybra Price, II will officiate. Interment will be in FOREST LAWN CEMETERY. Visitation on Thursday evening from 7:00 P.M. to 10:00 P.M. and on Friday after 9:00 A.M. until funeral time.
