He graduated from Warren Easton High School in 1935 and LSU in 1941 with a Bachelor of Science in geology. He played three years as the starting shortstop for the varsity baseball team, helping the Tigers win their first SEC Championship in 1939. Twice he was named all-conference shortstop with a batting average well over .300. Although he was recruited by several major league baseball teams, Joffre chose to enlist in the United States Army. Among his many assignments, he served as a navigator for trans-Atlantic transport missions for the Army Air Force. After the war, he remained in the Army Reserves obtaining the rank of colonel before leaving the service in 1951. Joffre spent 60 years in the oil and gas business, working as a petroleum geologist and regional executive for the California Company, Mississippi River Fuel, and Woods Petroleum. After many years in the industry, Joffre became an independent consultant and formed his own company. In 1947, he was part of the team to make the first offshore oil discovery at the Main Pass, Block 69. Throughout his trailblazing career, Joffre enjoyed mentoring young geologists and working with them to build a vibrant oil and gas industry in Louisiana. For several decades, Joffre was an active member of the Petroleum Club of New Orleans, New Orleans Country Club, the Pickwick Club, the Bienville Club and numerous carnival organizations. He was also a generous contributor to a variety of local and national Catholic charities.
