Porter, entered eternal rest Monday, Feb. 14, 2011, at the age of 84. Joseph was born to the late Charles Augustus and Zeta Alfred Porter July 23, 1926. He was married to Mary Harrison Porter for 65 years. He was a native and lifelong resident of Slidell in the Indian Village area. He graduated from St. Tammany Parish Training School, now known as St. Tammany Jr. High School, and took extended courses at Delgado Community College. He retired from Chrysler Corporation after 13 1/2 years and was a tool specialist at Lockheed Martin Corporation from which he retired after 17 1/2 years. He was a lifelong member of Hartzell Mt. Zion United Methodist Church and served on many committees through the years. He was also a member of the Young Men's Business Club and a 50-year honorary member of the Parson's Lodge 45 F&AM P.H.A. Joe and his wife, Mary owned and operated The Village Inn Lounge, Restaurant and picnic area as well as Porter's Delicatessen. Regretfully, their only son, Ronald Porter, passed away in 2003 from pancreatic cancer. Joe is survived by his wife, Mary and two daughters, Andrea Porter Claude (Richard) and Janine Porter Sylvas (Bruce). He is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren. Family and friends are invited to attend his service, which will be held at 1 p.m. tomorrow at Hartzell Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, 41040 Highway 190 East, Slidell. Visitation is from noon to 1 p.m. and service begins at 1:00 p.m. Interment is in Porter Cemetery. Arrangements by Doyle's Funeral Home, Slidell. ===================
