Please go to http://usgwarchives.net/la/sttammany/obits/dateobits/2011/st1103.htm and click to view list of photos. ========== Mr. George Willis Cross, 87, beloved husband of Mrs. Eleanor Calley Story Cross entered into rest Saturday, March 12, 2011, at Kentwood Nursing Home in Augusta, Ga. George was the son of the late Charles F. Cross and the late Virginia White Cross. He was born in Richmond, Va., and spent his youth in Lynchburg, Va. He graduated from E.C. Glass High School and continued his education at Virginia Military Institute. Following his service in World War II he completed his education at the University of Richmond, where he was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity. George accepted a position with Bethlehem Steel Corporation and spent his entire 39-year business career with Bethlehem. For the last 20 years of his career he served as the regional sales manager for the Southeastern United States with offices in New Orleans. He retired in 1982. George's home was in Covington, where he lived for 47 years and where he was active in many civic and church activities. He was a member of St. Benedict's Catholic Church where he was active in the Holy Name Society. After Hurricane Katrina George and Sweetie moved to Augusta, where they have spent the past five years enjoying their family. George was a member of St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, and he will be deeply missed by his family and friends. In addition to his wife, Mr. Cross is survived by his children, George W. Cross, Jr. (Spencer) of Lynchburg, and Louise Mallan Cross Kelbaugh of Columbia, Md.; his stepchildren, Dr. Stacy "Chip" Hammond Story, Ill., (Nancy) of Augusta, Stephen Francis Story (Robyn) of Tampa, Fla., John Michael Story (Susan) of Greensboro, N.C.,, and Ellen Story Ashe (Steven) of Evans; his brother, John Haw Cross (Page) of Hilton Head, S.C.; his grandchildren, Haden Mallan Cross, Thomas Brent Story (Dee Dee), Stephen Francis Story, Jr. (Tanya), Jessica Story Nance (Josh), Emily Cross Story, Caro Story Ashe, Evan Carlisle Ashe; his great- grandchildren, Rebecca Calley Story, Stacy Hammond Story, V, Jack Woodruff Story, and Lillian Marie Story; and his nephew, John H. Cross, Jr. (Amy). Mr. Cross was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Louise Mallan Hughes Cross, and his grandson, Stacy Hammond Story IV. The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation for the loving care given George by his special friend, Leon Lewis, the staff of Kentwood Nursing Home, and Sister Josephine Quinlan of St. Mary's, his spiritual caregiver and dear friend. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow at Platt's Crawford Avenue Chapel in Augusta, Ga., with the Rev. Dr. Hugh McClure officiating. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers the family has asked for friends to make contributions to a charity of one's choice ===================
