'Big Jim' was born in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania on July 11, 1927 to the late Thomas Haffey, Sr. and Dorothy Lambert Haffey. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Marlene Haffey; his adoring children, James Haffey, Jr. of Virginia Beach, Va. and Robin Haffey Kopcso (Ken); granddaughters, Jessica and Kara and stepson, John Schilling of Abita Springs. He is preceded in death by his faithful wife of 52 years, Stella Zibaila Haffey. He moved to Abita Springs from Virginia Beach, Va. after her death to be closer to his granddaughters whom he adored. Jim retired as a Chief Machinist Mate from the United States Navy after serving for 24 years. He was a veteran of World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War, where he served as a Naval Contractor after his retirement. Jim always had a warm smile, a heartwarming story and pocketful of peppermints for everyone he met. He loved nothing better than to spend the day working in his garden, tinkering with his lawnmower or painting landscapes of ships and shores. He will be missed for his endearing stories and his generous spirit. Jim truly never met a stranger. He will be missed by many and is leaving this world a better place. Our family would like to thank Hospice of St. Tammany and the Mary Byrd Perkins Cancer Center for their loving and compassionate care of Pap in this last year. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Service at Trinity Baptist Church, 71117 Highway 59, Abita Springs, LA 70420 on Saturday, March 26, 2011 at 7:00 pm with Brother Winfred Baker officiating. A reception will follow the service. ===================
