Bell; Father of Steve Bell (Barbara), Cindy Chadwick (Tommy), Ronnie Bell (Jan) and Rodney Bell (Christine). Son of the late Bryant and Myrtle Bell of Green Forest, Arkansas. Brother of Bill Bell, and the late Yvonne Comstock, Jack Bell, J.H. Bell, Dianne McQueary, and R.C. Bell; Also survived by eight grandchildren: Mandy Calhoun (Pate), Stevi Bell, Kendall Frierson (Brandon), Allison Bell, Erin Bell, Lindsey Bell, Tyler Bell and Ashlyn Bell; and four great-grandchildren: Kara and Brandon Frierson, Marlee and Cooper Calhoun. Chuck was the eldest of 7 siblings raised in rural Arkansas. Chuck took off his junior year of high school in 1947 at the age of 17 to travel to California with his father for a year to help raise money to support his family back home. Upon his return to Arkansas, he completed his senior year of high school then joined the Navy the following year. He spent the next 4 years in the Navy touring the Pacific. During that time, he met Cara Belle Patton, whom he married in 1953. After his tour with the Navy ended, he landed in Wichita, Kansas in 1954 working for Boeing Aircraft. In 1963, he transferred with Boeing to New Orleans to work on the space program as a Systems Analyst. In 1966, the Bell's moved to Slidell, LA where they raised their four children. In the late 60s, Chuck became active coaching youth sports in which his sons played. He always had athletes of mixed abilities on his sports teams, but year after year, he had winning seasons. He coached both basketball and baseball for over 15 years. Chuck was an active member with the Slidell Evening Lions, participating in various community service projects and was also an avid bowler, bowling in Slidell and New Orleans leagues for many years. Chuck had an amazing green thumb and could grow anything. His large garden in the back yard had every kind of vegetable you could imagine. Every spring, family and friends looked forward to his delicious home-grown tomatoes. One of Chuck's last conversations was counseling one of his nurses on tips for growing great tomatoes. Chuck loved working on his computer and one would find him in his computer room daily. He enjoyed printing pictures that Cara had taken. Every year he looked forward to tax season and doing everyone's taxes in the family. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral. Funeral Services will be held at Honaker Funeral Home, 1751 Gause Blvd. West (in Forest Lawn Cemetery), Slidell, LA on Friday, April 8, 2011 at 11:00. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
