She was 83. A native of Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, she grew up in Zachary, Louisiana, and Memphis, Tennessee, where she was valedictorian of Southside High School in 1946. She was a graduate of Memphis State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in English. She spent most of her adult life in Jackson, Mississippi, where she was a communicant of St. Philip's Episcopal Church and active in the life of Millsaps College, where her husband, George Wilson Boyd, was a professor of English. Since 2002, she was a resident of Christwood Retirement Community in Covington, Louisiana, where she was a communicant of Christ Episcopal Church. She was an avid reader and quilter. She is survived by a son, Andrew Boyd, of Covington, LA; daughters Deirdre Martel of Denver, CO; Elizabeth Boyd, of Takoma Park, MD; and Alison Bravenec, of Austin, TX; brothers John Richards, of Brooklyn, NY, and Norman Richards, of Spanish Fort, AL; and six grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at Christ Episcopal Church, 120 S. New Hampshire St., Covington, LA, on Sunday, April 10, with visitation beginning at 3pm followed by the service at 4 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in memory of Mrs. Boyd to The John A. Lohman Fund, c/o Christwood Retirement Community, 100 Christwood Blvd., Covington, LA, 70433. ===================
