Gomez "Mr. Pete", 85, of Slidell, passed away April 12, 2011 at Oschner Foundation Hospital, New Orleans. Mr. Pete was born in Dallas, Texas on February 23, 1926 to the late Jesus Gomez and Lucy Gonzales Gomez. He was a Catholic and was a veteran of WWII having served in the US Army during the European-Africa Middle Eastern Campaign. He received numerous metals and honors including the Purple Heart. Mr. Pete is survived by his daughter, Mary Helen Zarate of Mesquite, TX; his granddaughters, Michelle (Terry) Dickson and Diana Cotton, all of Mesquite and Kailyn Gomez of Slidell; and his grandson, Jonah Gomez of Slidell. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren: Ryan, Miranda, Todd, Haliegh, Megan and Timothy, all of Mesquite, TX; his two sisters, Dolores Lopez and Candy Gomez, both of Dallas, TX; and his brothers, Jesse, John, Lupe, Joe, Paul and Jimmie Gomez, all of Dallas. Mr. Pete is also survived by a special friend, Norma Sloan of Slidell. Mr. Pete was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Lane Gomez and one son, Michael Gomez. Funeral Mass will be held tomorrow at 1 p.m. at Brookhaven Funeral Home Chapel, 230 North Jackson St., Brookhaven, MS with Father Matthew Simmons presiding. Visitation will be held at Brookhaven Funeral Home tonight from 6 p.m. until 9 p. m. with a Rosary at 7 p. m. Visitation will resume tomorrow morning at 8 a.m. until service time at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
