Brother of Dorothy Heap McDow, Raymond Ernest Heap, and the late Eddie, Jim, Bob, Ted, Jerry, Bro. Harold Heap, F.S.C., and Catherine Heap Voizin. He graduated cum laude from the University of Notre Dame, where he was named Academic All-American for three consecutive years. Joe went on to play for the New York Giants before he fulfilled his duties with the U.S. Air Force, retiring as a Lt. Col. Joe enjoyed boating with his late Uncle Herman on the "Smile-A-While," fishing and hunting with his sons, watching Notre Dame football on Saturdays, volunteering with his brothers at the Abbey's Pennies for Bread, golfing with his brothers and buddies at City Park, watching and feeding the birds in his backyard, getting together with his Good Friends group, keeping in touch with his comrades from Holy Cross and Notre Dame, but mostly he enjoyed spending time with his wife and family. The family wishes to thank St. Tammany Hospital and Hospice for taking such good care of Joe in his final days. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at E.J.
