But both dates are unimportant, as it was all the dates in between that defined our Mom, Sister, and Grandma Jan. This obituary took some time to write as we are all left struggling with how to reduce such a beautiful life into words. During those in-between years, she married her lifetime partner and love, with whom she has now been reunited. She gave birth to five children, three were taken too soon, but will now get their time with Mom. The other two children she raised, loved, supported, consoled, and praised until the day she passed. She was a wonderful mother, with a tender hand, and caring heart. When her children married, she embraced their spouses as her family. She loved and encouraged them, and in return she was loved, respected, and admired for the amazing person she was. Her most cherished, and irreplaceable role, however, was that of Grandma Jan to her 10 grandchildren. They always knew that Grandma would find a way to sneak that cookie to them, or protect and defend them, from mom and dad, when they misbehaved. They will always remember that they were all lucky enough to have Grandma Jan in their lives, and heart, if only for a brief period of time. She was a novice gambler, who beamed like a child on Christmas Day every time she walked into a casino. She took such pride in her lawn, and in her last days said how much she wished she could mow her yard again. Her home was warm and inviting, and everyone was always welcome. She held her head high, and put up a fight that we were unaware was even possible, all the way until the end. While selfishly we would have loved to have kept her here for many more years, her family all knows that this remarkable woman has fought and sacrificed more than enough for one lifetime, and can now truly rest in peace. Mom - Sister - Grandma Jan, you will be missed more than you could ever know. You were never a burden. It was our privilege, and honor, to share that time during your last months with us. Jackson says, "See you ma–ana, Grandma Jan, and ÀQue Paso? Paw Paw Jack". Tell Dad we say hello, and we love and deeply miss you both. A celebration of Jack and Janice Mitchell's life together will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 1, at Calvary Baptist Church. All loved ones are invited to attend. ===================
