He will be buried in the columbarium there next to his father, Roderick E. Morrison. Robert Eason Morrison, a retired school principal and teacher who dedicated most of his time to education and his family, died peacefully, on Thursday, April 21, 2011 in Mandeville, LA at the age of 86. (He was a long time resident of Wolfeboro, N.H.) A New Jersey native who graduated from Teaneck High School and Hobart College also received his Masters in Education from Columbia University. Mr. Morrison administered and taught in New Jersey, Aruba, Vermont, New Hampshire, Libya, Maine, and Louisiana. He continued to hear from his students from all around the world his entire life. He brought history and current events alive for his students. "His philosophy was that an educational system accepts each student at their present academic, social and athletic level. It then becomes the responsibility of the school to create an environment that will develop their full potential in these and other areas," said his son, James Morrison. Mr. Morrison was a WWII Veteran with the 76th Military Company 24th Infantry Division 6th Army. He was an active member of the NASSP from 1961-1982 and also the N.H.A.S.S.P. from 1966-1977, and he served on the executive board for the state of New Hampshire. He had many educational affiliations and dedicated his career to his students and faculty. We often heard him say his greatest ambition was to start a school from "scratch". He accomplished his dream by opening the Gilford Middle High School in 1973. He oversaw the construction of the building, purchased all the materials, hired a staff of 45, and developed the curriculum one year prior to its opening. It was the first school in New Hampshire to feature open-concept classrooms and a tartan gymnasium floor. He was the principal at Kingswood Regional High School in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire from 1966-1973. This experience served him well to achieve his ultimate goal. Robert enjoyed traveling for most of his life. He was fortunate to travel overseas, visiting Europe, Africa, and 35 states in the U.S. His hobbies included sailing, golf, and skiing. He was survived by his devoted and loving wife of 62 years, Mary Newton Cox Morrison; son James E. Morrison and wife Jennifer of Mandeville, La.; and daughter Lynn D. Goodale and husband Mason of Murphys, Ca. He had four grandchildren, Jacquelyn Morrison, Jacin Morrison, Eason Goodale, and Levi Goodale.
