June was born in Grand Junction, Colorado and was raised on the family dairy farm where, as a young girl, she drove tractors and rounded up cows, horses, and peacocks. She attended Mesa College and was a member of the "Steperette" dance team. At the age of 20, she moved to Moab, Utah where she met and married Donald Ray, and began a lifelong journey through the oil fields of the world. She was a devout Christian and a devoted and enthusiastic student of the Bible. She worked as a substitute teacher in South Texas, and volunteered at a Slidell daycare facility, working with children. She was a brilliant Bridge player and an active member of the St. Tammany Bridge Club. She was previously a member of the KL Bridge Club of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and the Campo Verde Bridge Club of Tia Juana, Venezuela. She was also a member of the Palm Lake Garden Club.
