He was born March 4, 1971 and was killed during the heroic act of saving his daughter's life. He was a life long resident of Covington, LA. During his 19 year career with Covington Police Department, Wade was acknowledged for his leadership, courage and excellent character. He was nominated for a 'Top Cop' award in August 1998, was named the Rotary Officer of the Year by the Covington Rotary Club in December 1998, received the Lawman of the Year in 2007 from the American Legion and was issued the Medal of Valor on two occasions: once in 1997 for saving a man and his dog from a burning apartment complex and a second time in 2010 for saving an individual from a burning residence in 2006. Wade certainly lived his life in the same manner in which his life was taken...as a hero. He is survived by his father and step-mother, Douglas and Rebecca Flynn Sharp, and his mother and step-father, Pamela Rushing Culotta and Frank Culotta, Sr. The beloved husband of Stacy Shelby Sharp, he is also survived by two children, Chase A. Sharp and Bailey A. Sharp; his grandmother, Bertha Sharp and one brother, Erron M. Sharp (Frieda). He is the step-brother of Stephen Culotta, Angelina Culotta, Wanda Rendenz (Charles), Frank Culotta, Jr., Darlene Mitchell and Lindsey Brooks. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend funeral services at 11:00 AM on Monday, May 2, 2011 at the First Baptist Church of Covington, 16333 Highway 1085, Covington, LA 70433 A wake is scheduled for Sunday, May 1, 2011 from 4-8:00 PM at the E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W. 21st Ave. Covington, LA 70433. Visiting hours at First Baptist Church will begin Monday at 9:00 AM. Interment at New Zion Baptist Church Cemetery in Covington will immediately follow services. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Lt. Douglas Wade Sharp Memorial Fund at any Capitol One Bank. ===================
