Please go to http://usgwarchives.net/la/sttammany/obits/dateobits/2011/st1105.htm and click to view list of photos. ========== Basil Lowry Eckles, Jr. was born November 10, 1923 in Coldwater, MS and passed away from complications of a stroke, on Sunday, May 8, 2011 at the age of 87. Basil was preceded in death by his parents Basil and Nellie May Eckles, and his wife of 50 years, Jean Parsons Eckles. He spent his youth in Clarksdale, MS where he graduated from Clarksdale High School. He attended Mississippi State University for one year prior to enlisting in the U.S. Army. As a First Sergeant, he saw active duty in the Philippines. Bas and Jean ran his mother's business, Nellie May's Gift Shop, in Clarksdale, before moving to Covington, LA upon their retirement. He will be sorely missed by his daughter Vicki Eckles Macgowan and grandson Barrett Locke Macgowan. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Graveside Service at Oakridge Cemetery, at the corner of Oakhurst Avenue & W. Lee Drive, Clarksdale, MS on Friday, May 13, 2011 at 2:00 pm.
