A native New Orleanian and a dedicated member of the IBEW Local # 130 for over 40 years, he was known by his many friends as "Fat City Smitty" and also as a loyal Saints fan of the Who Dat Nation. The beloved son of Corliss Helm Schmidt and the late Fred Schmidt, he is survived by three sons: Fred Schmidt, Christian Schmidt (Jacqueline) and David Schmidt (Kellie); six grandchildren: Victoria, Cody, Tyler, Zachary, Justin and Elizabeth; his loving companion and significant other, Tricia Lindsey, her son, Jason Lonigro; his sister, Karen S. Wilkerson (J.W.); two brothers, Steven (Pattie) and Scott (Staci) Schmidt and his nephew, Brendan Scott Schmidt. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral mass at 9:30 AM on Saturday, June 25, 2011 at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church, 3386 Esplanade Ave. New Orleans, LA 70119. Interment at St. Vincent de Paul Cemetery will immediately follow mass. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, www.stjude.org. ===================
