He was the beloved husband of 23 years to Rebecca Nastasi Cole, loving father of Kevin Michael Cole, Cheryl Rebecca Cole, Kristin Cole McAnelly (Jim) and Alyson Cole Grifka (Jesse), and grandfather of Kaitlin, Pio Gabriel, Jacob, with another grandchild due in September. Kevin was the son of Helen Creghton Cole, brother of Gary Cole (Anne), Don Cole (Trudy), Katya C. Hazel (Jim) and Kent Cole (Diana), son-in-law of Peter and Adeline Nastasi, brother in law of Peter Nastasi (Kathy), Andrew Nastasi (Karen) and Rhonda Bechac (Denis) and longtime friend of Dale Jones, John Robles, Danny Gendusa and Brenda Morton. He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Ned A. Cole, and his brother, Keith Cole. Kevin was born on July 15, 1954 in Austin, Texas. As a young boy he moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana and has made Mandeville his home for the past 33 years. Kevin received his Juris Doctorate in 1978 from Louisiana State University School of Law and was devoted to his legal career. Upon graduating from law school, he began working as a Law Clerk for Chief Judge Ellis of the Louisiana First Circuit Court of Appeal. From there he was a partner with Haley McNamara for many years; then a partner with the firm of Chopin, Wagar, Cole, Richard, Reboul & Kutcher. In 2004, Kevin became a shareholder with the law firm of Galloway, Johnson, Tompkins, Burr & Smith and founded its Mandeville Office. Kevin was an active member of the National Association of Professional Surplus Line Offices (NAPSLO) and American Association of Managing General Agents (AAMGA). He was a former Board member and former President of the New Orleans Chapter of the Professional Insurance Agents ("PIA") and a former Board Member and former President of the North Shore Chapter of the PIA. He was the former President of the "1752 Club", a former President of the New Orleans Casualty and Surety Association, a former President of the New Orleans Claims Association, a former member of the Louisiana Department of Insurance Surplus Lines Advisory Council, a former member of the Louisiana Association of Business & Industry Civil Justice Reform Council (formerly the Liability Task Force), and member of the Legislative Committees of NAPSLO and AAMGA; Kevin was also a member of the Risk Insurance Management Society (RIMS), the Louisiana Surplus Lines Association (LSLA) and the Texas Surplus Line Association (TSLA). Although the practice of law was quite demanding and challenging, Kevin remained active and dedicated to his church and his family. His wife, children, and grandchildren were his highest priority and gave him great joy. His love of faith was truly expressed through his dedicated work as a member of the Mary Queen of Peace Choir as well as a longtime Lector and member of the Stewardship Committee. Kevin was an extraordinary man. He had an incredible love of life and people. He was a good listener and he led by example. He was genuine, compassionate, wonderfully supportive, generous and an inspiration to all who knew him. He will be dearly missed. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at St. Joseph Abbey, 75376 River Road, St. Benedict, LA 70457 on Friday, July 15, 2011 at 1:00 PM. A Wake will be held at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 West 21st Avenue, Covington, LA 70433 on Thursday, July 14, 2011 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Friday, July 15, 2011 from 10:00 AM until 12:30 PM. Interment will follow Mass at St. Joseph Abbey Cemetery. An educational fund has been established in the memory of Kevin L. Cole. Memorials may be directed to the family for the children's education.
