Bruce was born in Port Lavaca, Texas on September 5, 1923, and resided in Louisiana for the past 35 years. He was preceded in death by his parents Stanley E. and Carrie Elizabeth Allen Smith, his brother Stanley A. Smith (Marilyn), his sister Marie Suzanne Coward (Merrill), his daughters Sherry Darlene Howard (Ray) and Cynthia Louise Peterson (Stanley). Bruce is survived by his beloved wife Terry Dognibene Smith, his children Karen Brucene Galvan (David), Carrie Elizabeth Mueller (Gary), Robert Bruce Smith (Connie) and Mary Suzanne Jaster (Roger), his stepchildren Kim Plescia, Charles Plescia (Karen) and Kerrie Finnegan. Grandfather of Roxy, Clint, Cristian, Sarah, Matthew, Marian, Adam, Tony, Blake, Cheryl, Aaron, Kristen, Jessica, Catherine, Brooke and Madison; step grandfather of Chuck, Kevin, Michael, Michelle, Gerad and Justin. Great grandfather of ten children and uncle of many nieces and nephews. Bruce graduated from Port Lavaca High School and attended Texas A&M. He was a WWII Army Air Corps Veteran serving as a B-24 co-pilot. After the war, Bruce worked in the dredging industry as a mechanical engineer retiring at the age of 73 from C.F. Bean Corp. He continued his career as a private consultant for several more years. Bruce maintained an active membership with the dredging associations. He attended the yearly reunions of the 454th Bombardment Group Association. Bruce celebrated the annual Texas Aggie Muster with fellow alumni and spent time tackling projects in his workshop. Included in his love of family, country and faith, Bruce discovered the joy of sailing at an early age and continued this passion throughout his life. He extensively traveled internationally for business and pleasure applying his vast knowledge of world geography. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to military services on Thursday, July 7, 2011 at 2:30pm in Biloxi National Cemetery, Biloxi, MS.
