A life resident of St. Tammany Parish, he was born June 21, 1919 in Folsom to the late David and Geneva Willie Thompson. The beloved husband of Lucille Gill Stevens Thompson, he is survived by two sons, Barry Thompson (Ellouise) and Bruce Thompson (Eugenie); one stepson, Alvin Ben Stevens (Alice); one brother, Huey Thompson; one sister, Jeannette T. Davis; seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Rita Harper Thompson; one stepson, Charles Wayne Stevens; one grandson, David Thompson; five brothers, Guy, Alvin, Virgil, Elzie and Emmett Thompson; one sister, Mavis Thompson and one great-grandson, Michael Thompson. Hezzie was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the 8th Infantry Division in Europe from July 1944 through warÕs end. The division was involved in the ÒbreakoutÓ at St. Lo, Battle of the Huertgen Forest, as well as other engagements. He was honorably discharged as First Sergeant and recipient of a Purple Heart with Oak Leaf cluster, a Bronze Star and CIB. Prior to his present membership at First Baptist Church of Covington, he served as Deacon at Bogue Falaya Baptist Church in Folsom. He was also a member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart and the local chapters of the American Legion and VFW. The funeral services was yesterday at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, Covington. Interment was in Bogue Falaya Baptist Church Cemetery in Folsom. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Covington ÒYoung at HeartÓ ministry or to St. Tammany Parish Hospital Hospice of St. Tammany. ===================
