Formerly of Mandeville, Louisiana, Mrs. Darsey lived the past fifteen months with her daughter in Lynn Haven, Florida. She was carried from this world on the wings of Angels to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, whom she lived her life for. She is without question overjoyed and in her glory to be able to stand hand in hand with Him now. Her only regret in leaving this world is that she left before seeing and holding her first great-great grandchild, expected to arrive in Augusta, Georgia in about seven weeks. Mrs. Darsey was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on April 6, 1927, the oldest daughter of Leon P. and Ethel Songy. She grew up on Calhoun Avenue near Audubon Park along with one brother, Roy, and a sister, Carol. She was raised in and remained active her entire life in the Seventh Day Adventist Church, the faith in which she also raised her children. Gloria married the late Edward Joseph Darsey Sr. on April 6, 1947 and they had two children Eddie Jr. and Sharon. They resided in New Orleans until relocating to Mandeville, Louisiana in the l970's, where for many years she was active in the Mandeville Garden Club. Mrs. Darsey is survived by her daughter, Sharon Stanley and husband Grady; three granddaughters, Andrea Kennington (Chris), Jenifer Palmer (Paul), Stephanie Bingham (Jason) and one grandson, Edward Darsey III (Alicia); seven great-granddaughters and three great grandsons; and her baby sister Carol Griffin (Frank)of Baton Rouge. She also leaves behind her recently adopted Pugs, Cagney and Lacey, who already miss her greatly. Mrs. Darsey was predeceased by her husband, Edward J. Darsey Sr. (November 25, 2005) her son Edward J. Darsey Jr. (October 10, 2009), and her brother, Roy Songy (August 25, 2004). Services will be held at the E.J. Fielding Funeral Home Inc., 2260 W. 21st. Ave., Covington, LA 70433 on Friday, October 21, 2011. Visitation for friends and family will be from 1 — 2pm with services immediately following at 2pm in the chapel. Interment will follow in the Pinecrest Memorial Gardens. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers donations in memory of Mrs. Darsey be made to the American Heart Association or a mission fund of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. ===================
