He was born in Abita Springs, Louisiana in 1914. He is survived by his son & daughter-in-law, Richard & Brenda Davis of Las Vegas; son-in-law David Bentley of Sunnyvale, CA; granddaughters Dawn Coupe of Castro Valley and Lynne Sullivan of San Jose; his brother Ed Davis of Baton Rouge, LA; his sister Leonora Roebke of Bartow, FL; three great grand children and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Esther in 2001; his daughter, Marilyn Bentley of Sunnyvale in 1983; his brothers Jess and George of Baton Rouge and Covington, LA; and his sister Betty Heckman of New Orleans. Walter and his family moved to Santa Rosa in 1951 when the Naval Air Station was reopened during the Korean War. Walter retired in 1954, after 20 years in the Navy. He began his Navy career on the Battleship Maryland. At the beginning of WWII he was stationed in Alaska when the Japanese invaded the nearby Aleutian Islands. He served on several ships in the Pacific and participated in three invasions including the Aleutian Islands, and the horrific battle of Okinawa. After his retirement from the Navy he owned and operated several barber shops in Healdsburg, Santa Rosa and Geyserville. He was a member of the Masonic and IOOF lodges in Healdsburg. At his request there will be no services. The U.S. Coast Guard will scatter part of his ashes at sea so that he can join Esther for eternity - the remainder will be buried in the Davis Cemetery in Abita Springs, LA. ===================
