She was born in Tylertown, Miss., Nov. 30, 1922, but lived most of her life in St. Tammany Parish. She attended Lyon High School and was awarded silver and gold basketballs for her skills on the court, including a state championship. She was also a cheerleader. After several years in Colombia, South America, she made Slidell her home in 1971. She was a member of Evans Creek Baptist church for 77 years. Most of us remember her for her spirit, her love of children, her wonderful skills in the kitchen, and her phenomenal work ethic. We were all amazed by her strength and stamina; she was still cutting her own grass at 88. She is preceded in death by her parents, Dolan and Zella Fortenberry; her sister, Avis Wilson, and her husband Dudley. She is survived by her brother H. D. Fortenberry; her sons, Phil and Michael Guilott; her daughter, Carol Young; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. Those who knew her loved her; many were inspired and touched by her; all will miss her. Visitation will, from 6 - 9 p.m. today at Evans Creek Baptist Church. Doors of the church will open at noon Saturday with services at 2:30 p.m. Interment will be in the Evans Creek cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation in her memory to either the American Cancer Society or your favorite charity. ===================
