She was born in Patterson, Louisiana to Julia Trellue Alpha and Pinckney Davis Alpha, Jr., who raised her with much love and laughter with her seven brothers and sisters. She was the epitome of a devoted wife, mother and “Mimi” to her grandchildren Betsy and Brandon, and lit up every room she entered with her smile. She was the perfect Southern lady and hostess, and was, at all times, impeccably dressed, on the go, and ready for a good conversation. Frances served as a Wave in the Navy during World War II, and was stationed as a nurse at Bethesda Naval Hospital. During her years in Slidell, she was a founding member and active supporter of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, and was a member of many civic associations, including the Slidell Women’s Petroleum Club, the Slidell Garden Club and the Slidell Newcomers Club. She was a former President of the Slidell Lioness Club, and was named a Melvin Jones Fellow by the Lions Club International. She is survived by her beloved husband of sixty-five years, Connor Hammond, her daughter, Pamela Whittinghill Hammond of New Orleans, and her granddaughter, Elizabeth Hammond Gray, also of New Orleans. Also surviving her are three sisters, Janet Alpha Blanco of Ricohoc, Marlene Alpha Daigle of Morgan City and Maxine Alpha Walker of Plano, Texas, along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Robert Rae Alpha of Eastleigh, England, Brian Davis Alpha of Patterson, and George Pinckney Alpha of Bunkie, her sister Elaine Alpha Watson of Shirley, Arkansas, and her grandson Brandon. She was much loved by her family and friends, and will be greatly missed. Many thanks and much love go to her devoted caregiver Patsy Dossman, and the many friends who supported her through her illness. A celebration of her life will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, October 26, 2011, at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 360 Robert Boulevard, Slidell, Louisiana, 70458, with a reception to follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that she be remembered with donations to the church. Interment will be in Morgan City Cemetery, and will be private. ===================
