She was born Christmas Day 1912 in Ennis, TX to the late Alfred Tasco Rawlins and Sadie Sophie Olsen. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William Pascal Cornelius, Sr.; sisters Nina R. Wood and Barbara R. Hilgers, brothers Leslie Rawlins, Olsen Rawlins, and Alfred Rawlins; and great-granddaughter, Gabriella Rose Cook. She is survived by her seven children: Connie C. Buchanan of Houston, TX; William P. Cornelius, Jr. (Robin) of Mexia, TX; Joyce C. Klais of Slidell, LA; Marion C. Bertaut (Albert) of Thibodaux, LA; Ellen C. Thomas (Daniel) of Slidell, LA; Deborah C. Kimbrough (Bruce) of Pasadena, TX; and Dorothy “Dotsy” C. Cook of Slidell, LA; grandchildren: James E. Buchanan (Kathy) of Warren, RI; William Arthur Buchanan of Houston, TX; Dorothy Sue Buchanan (Theresa) of Atlanta, GA; Ruth Ellen Cornelius of Baytown, TX; Lynn C. Lewis of Baytown, TX; Brenda K. Nixon of Jacksonville, FL; John Jefferson Klais, Jr. (Cindy) of Round Rock, TX; Tracie Bertaut of Destrehan, LA; Karen B. Chiasson (Jacob) of Thibodaux, LA; Christy T. Hollenbeck (Eddy) of Slidell, LA; Kevin D. Thomas (Jill) of Slidell, LA; Leslie T. Gates (Brian) of Slidell, LA; Kristen K. Brodie (Scott) of Pasadena, TX; Jacob Kimbrough of Pasadena, TX; Danielle C. Lewis (Brian) of Slidell, LA; William Thomas "TJ" Cook (Pam) of Slidell, LA; and Elizabeth "Liza" Cook of Slidell, LA; 25 great-grandchildren; two great- great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Cornelius was a life-long member of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and a very active member of First Christian Church, Slidell, LA for the past 44 years as Sunday School teacher, committee chairperson, choir member, the church’s first female Elder subsequently becoming Elder Emeritus, and numerous other positions. She was recently honored with the naming of her church’s new building as the Cornelius Community Center. She loved to sew and paint and her beautiful yard reflected her love of flowers, which she shared with her congregation every Sunday. Services will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2011 at 11:00 a.m., at First Christian Church, 102 Christian Lane (at Robert Blvd), Slidell, LA. Friends may visit at the church on Saturday beginning at 10:00am. Pallbearers honored are James Buchanan, Kevin Thomas, TJ Cook, Brian Gates, Eddy Hollenbeck, and Brian Lewis. Rev. Susan Lassalle officiating. Interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Honaker Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations are appreciated to First Christian Church for the Cornelius Community Center Building Fund.
