JOHN PALMER COTTINGHAM, JR., of Slidell, LA, passed away after a long illness on Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at Slidell memorial Hospital. Beloved husband of Maria Larrain Cottingham for the past 52 years. Father of Jay Cottingham, Blair Cottingham (Judy) and Kristin Ingram (Bay). Son of the late John P. Cottingham, Sr. and Mary Edna Cottingham. Nephew of Annie Lee McHugh of Orrville, AL. Also survived by 10 grandchildren; Jack, Daniel and Matthew Cottingham, Morgan, Miranda, Camryn and Grace Cottingham and Christian, Hayden and Hunter Ingram. Age 77 years; a native of Montgomery, AL and a resident of Slidell since 1963. He was a graduate of Catholic High School, Montgomery, AL and Loyola University Dental School in New Orleans, LA, class of 1961. He served as a Captain in the US Army for 2 years, was a former President of the Slidell Rotary Club and coach at SYFA and SBBA for several years. With his dental practice and his involvement in the Slidell community, Dr. Cottingham shared his love, compassion, and friendship with many people whose lives he touched. He was an avid sportsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting with his friends and family. The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to all the doctor’s and staff at Slidell Memorial Hospital, especially Dr’s Albright, Gray, Guidry, Joubert and Pernenkil, the Excel Home Health Services staff and his caregivers, Frances Casborn and Dorothy Boldin. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral mass at St. Luke Catholic Church, 910 Cross Gates Blvd., Slidell, LA on Friday, December 2, 2011 at 3:00pm. Visitation will be at church from 2:00pm until 3:00pm. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, masses are preferred or a donation may be made to the Good Samaritan Center at St. Luke Catholic church.
