He was 73 years old, born in Meridian, MS, a longtime resident of Slidell, LA then retired in Picayune, MS. Early in life Mr. Echols made a name for himself as “Rockin Bob Robin” in radio as a top 40 DJ with WTIX during the late 50’s and 60’s. He later became a formative figure as a record producer and promoter in the music industry. He was a proud former member of the St. Tammany Parish School Board and worked in the insurance business. He was also a fond activist in local politics. He is preceded in death by his father, Berry Wade Echols, mother Joyce Marie Echols and brother, Elmer “Bud” Echols. He is survived by his beloved wife Janice McIntyre Echols and seven children, Robert Waide Echols (wife Lori), Todd Edward Echols, Robin Echols Hardy (husband Russell), Dean Gregory Echols, Nancy Echols Blanchard (husband Newton), Patrick Shelby Echols (wife Michelle), and Bradley Steven Echols (wife Erin); and sisters, Jenny Bankston and Dolores Todd. He has 17 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation at HONAKER FUNERAL HOME, 1751 GAUSE Blvd. WEST (IN FOREST LAWN CEMETERY), Slidell, LA on Sunday, November 13, 2011 from 5:00pm until 9:00pm and on Monday morning from 9:00am until 11:00am. Funeral services will follow at 11:00am. Interment will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
