Smith passed away Sunday Nov. 27, 2011, at her home, at the age of 91. She was surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Macon, Ga., but lived in Chalmette for over 25 years until Hurricane Katrina when she moved to Slidell. Thelma retired from Civil Service after 32 years working at the Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Miss. Thelma enjoyed and loved her family very much. She was a devout Christian and loved her church family very much. She attended Chalmette First Baptist Church for many years, and thoroughly enjoyed her Tuesday meetings with the Domino Devas at the church. She is preceded in death by her husbands Joseph E. Patterson, and Joseph E. Smith, and daughter Marjorie A. Brai. Thelma will be greatly missed by her daughter Macy P. Dukes; son Joseph R. Patterson, both of Slidell, and her adopted granddaughter, Thelma E. Atherton (Beth) of Harvey. She will also be missed by her 13 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 2, 2011 at the First Baptist Church in Chalmette. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to FBC Church, Chalmette, LA 70043.
