He was born Oct. 22, 1944 in Corpus Christi, Texas to the late John A. Bell, Jr. and the late Anna Lorraine Womack. John graduated from Calallen High School, attended Texas A&M University, and received an associate degree from Del Mar Junior College. In the early eighties, John started focusing on heart related diseases that caused the death of several relatives before the age of 50, including his father. Early detection and wellness became a personal crusade that John set out to conquer. He became a vigorous member of the healthcare industry, founding his first wellness company, Heart Check, in 1983. He expanded his knowledge base as well as his concern for each individual’s ability to be an advocate for his own health. As a pioneer and leader in the health care industry, he was able to establish the Direct Access Testing (DAT) concept and ten years later founded Direct Laboratory Services, Inc. For many years, John put everything he had into making Direct Laboratory Services what it is today. John is survived by his wife, Jinhwa Jung; a son, John A. Bell IV; a brother, Daniel Peter Bell of Corpus Christi, Texas; a sister, Linda Joy Bell of Conroe, Texas; two nephews, two nieces, three great nephews, and three great nieces; one paternal aunt, Mary Ellen Harrod of Pine Bluff, Ark., and an extraordinary family of close friends. John resided in Mandeville for 40 years until moving to Destin, Fla. in 2009 to be near his favorite place….the Ocean. John Bell and his passion for helping others is etched in our hearts and he will be missed. Heaven’s gain is our loss…….till we meet again A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday Dec. 27, 2011 at the Pontchartrain Yacht Club in Mandeville. There will be a graveside burial service at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 29, 2011 at the Destin Memorial Cemetery in Destin, Fla. In lieu of flowers, John wishes for donations be made to The Make a Wish Foundation. ===================
