Francis Gean LeBlanc, US Army Ret. passed away on Friday, December 2, 2011. Beloved father of Drucilla Ann L. Brannen (David), Gwendolyn Marie L. Payne (Wes), Pamela Jean L. Hart (Ed) and Thomas Joseph LeBlanc (Beth). He is also survived by nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Lee Shaffer LeBlanc; his mother, Laura Gaudin LeBlanc; his father, Albert Joseph LeBlanc; and a sister, Elaine L. Fortenberry. Age 86 years, he was a native of Alexandria, LA and a resident of Mandeville, LA for the past 8 years. Known by family and friends as “Gean,” Lt. Col. LeBlanc held degrees in nursing from Lamar College in Beaumont, TX, and St. Mary College in Leavenworth, KS, as well as an M.S. degree in Nursing Education from Indiana University in Bloomington, IN. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict. Lt. Col. LeBlanc held positions as a nursing instructor and head of psychiatric nursing at various Army facilities in the United States and Germany. Following his retirement from the Army in 1974, he later served as director of nursing for the Veterans Administration Hospital in Marion, IN, until 1987. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral service at the Chapel of E.J. Fielding Funeral Home Inc., 2260 W. 21st. Ave., Covington, LA 70433 on Tuesday, December 6, 2011 at 2:00 PM. A wake will be held on Monday, December 5, 2011 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM, with visitation resuming on Tuesday at 12:00 Noon. Interment with Military Honors will be held at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens following the service. ===================
