Nelsen, Jr. was taken to his eternal home, through Jesus, on Tuesday, December 13, 2011. Beloved husband of the late Doris “Pat” Nelsen, Father of Louis E. Nelsen III, John Nelsen, Judith Cantrell, Robert Nelsen and the late Paul Eugene Nelsen, father-in-law of Donna, Tammy and Robin Nelsen and Russell Cantrell, with the extended family of Thirteen grand-children, and four great grandchildren. Lou was a native of New Orleans and a former three sport star at Warren Easton High School in the 30’s, a protégée of the late Johnny Brechtel. A Warrant Officer in World War II, he served tours in North Africa, Italy and France. Lou was ordained into the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod in 1954. He returned to his native New Orleans in 1956 as the first full time Pastor for the newly formed Faith Lutheran Church in Harahan, where he faithfully served for 33 years until retirement. Finding it difficult to stay retired, Reverend Nelsen served 3 additional congregations in New Orleans and Baton Rouge. In 2001 he became the first Pastor of the newly founded Redeemer Lutheran Church in Mandeville, LA. He was also proud to have served as chaplain for the John Curtis Christian School Football team from 1978 – 2006. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral service at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, 315 Ridgelake Drive, Metairie, LA 70001 on Saturday, December 17, 2011 at 1:00 PM. Visitation, AT THE CHURCH, from 10:00 AM until service time.
