(Gay) Barlow Hooks, 75, of Slidell, Louisiana, passed away on Saturday, January 21, 2012. She was born in Bristol, Virginia on 25 October 1936. Gay attended Virginia Schools and completed a degree in Business and Economics at East Tennessee State University. While at East Tennessee State she was active in many student organizations, ROTC Sponsor, Band Majorette, Sorority, International Relations Club and selected for Who’s Who in Colleges and Universities. Gay was a wonderful Navy Wife with the awesome responsibility of managing a household and caring for three children during the separation of numerous deployments, and also moving to new homes in Hawaii, Tennessee, Virginia, Cuba, Florida, Holland finally settling in Louisiana. She was also very active in Women’s Clubs, Church and Community organizations, some of her job titles were President, Choir Director, Teacher, Editor, Sponsor and Volunteer. Gay will also be remembered for her unwavering faith, moral and ethical honesty, sense of self worth, intellectual curiosity, sense of humor, and devotion to family, friends , church and community. In addition to her other characteristics she was a great Golfer, Hole in One club, winning team for two Super Bowl Tournaments and other Pinewood Ladies Golf Events. Gay was preceded in death by her parents: Howard and Ethlyne Reynolds Barlow; in laws: John and Mozelle Vandergriff McClanahan Hooks, Thomas French McClanahan; a brother-in-law: James Kiln Holley; and Great Aunts: Rose E. Reynolds, Marjorie Reynolds Syms, Anna Belle Reynolds Hughes Watson, and Dorothy Reynolds. She is survived by her husband of 54 years: Edward F. Hooks of Slidell, LA; a son and daughter-in-law: Ed and Donna Hooks Jr. of Castle Rock CO; daughters and sons-in-law: Suzanne and Jim Rosser of College Station, TX, Elizabeth and Leon Tisdale of Slidell, LA; Grandsons: Ned Hooks of Castle Rock CO, James Rosser of College Station TX; Reese Rosser of College Station TX, David Brummett of Slidell LA, Cody Tisdale of Slidell LA; granddaughters: Christine Hooks of Castle Rock CO, Carolyn Rosser of College Station TX, Caitlyn Tisdale of Slidell LA; one sister: Rose Barlow Holley of Orange Park FL; sister-in-law and husband: Gilbert and Suzy Hooks Andry of Slidell LA; cousins: Eileen Hughes Klebenow and Anne Klebenow, both of Knoxville TN; also survived by numerous nieces and nephews in Virginia, Florida, and Louisiana. Memorial Services will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, January 25, 2012, at Christ Episcopal Church, 1534 7th Street Slidell LA 70458. St. Josephs Hospice of Slidell provided comforting professional care for Gay and our family in her last days at home, and in lieu of flowers we would appreciate your support for them. ===================
