SORENSEN, age 66, went home to be with the Lord, from home, on January 1, 2012. Sam was a retired elevator mechanic of 35 years and lived in Slidell for 37 years. He was born in Rochester, NY and graduated from Leavenworth Central High School in Wolcott, NY. He joined the U.S. Air Force at 18 and, except for a stint in Vietnam, was stationed at Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield, CA, where he met his wife and best friend of 45 years, Linda Lou Shoopman. Sam is survived by his mother, Eva Daisy Sorensen. He is the beloved father of David and wife Lisa Rachel, Richard and wife Lu Navarette and Stacey Sorensen. He is the brother of Carolyn Russell of NY, Steve Sorensen of TX and Jodi Smith of Washington. He is the grandfather of Travis, Sammy, Melissa, Stephen and Jeremy Sorensen. He is also survived by loving brothers and sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his father, Samuel F. Sorensen. The family would like to thank the staff of St. Joseph Hospice for the love and support they offered during this most difficult time. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation at HONAKER FUNERAL HOME, 1751 Gause Blvd. West, Slidell, LA 70460 on Wednesday, January 4, 2012 from 6:00pm until 9:00pm and on Thursday afternoon at FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 433 Erlanger Ave, Slidell, LA 70458 from 1:00pm until 2:00pm.
