He was born July 1, 1928 in Passaic, NJ to the late Frank and Rose Nagele Thomson and has been a resident of Mandeville since 1973. The beloved husband of the late Sally Whelan Thomson, he is survived by two daughters, Maris T. Tyson (Michael) and Jude T. Galloway; three sons: Michael A., John J. (Cheryl) and James M. Thomson; one brother, Ralph Thomson; one sister, Barbie Italiano (Carl); three granddaughters: Britton Thomson Cook (Scott), Laine C. Thomson and Lily M. Tyson and two great grandchildren, Schroeder A. and Loxley L. Cook. He was preceded in death by one son, Christopher F. Thomson. Dr. Thomson served in the U.S. Navy after World War II. He enlisted in 1946 and toured through Antarctica with Admiral Byrd in 1947 on the USS Philippine Sea. After being honorably discharged he attended West Virginia University and graduated in 1954 with a Master’s degree in Geology. He went on to Rutgers University and in 1957, graduated with a Doctorate in Philosophy. In 1958, he went to work for Shell Oil Company as a Geophysicist. After his retirement in 1985, he became an adjunct Professor of Geology at UNO. He was a loving husband and father and enjoyed sailing with his family along the Gulf Coast and on Lake Pontchartrain. A dedicated parishioner of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, he also served as the Drainage Commissioner for the city of Mandeville and was a member of the Pontchartrain Yacht Club for over 30 years. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the memorial mass at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 18, 2012 at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, 312 Lafitte St., Mandeville, LA 70448. Visitation at the church will begin at 10:00 AM. Interment at the Mandeville Cemetery will immediately follow mass. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 2605 River Road, New Orleans, LA 70121. ===================
