Walter W. Thurow, 84, passed away Friday, Feb. 3, 2012. 

He was born in Plano, Ill., and lived in Slidell for the past 30 years. 

He is survived by his beloved wife, Janet; son Craig (Dawn); stepdaughter Susan 
(Dave), and Sandy (John), and five grandchildren.

He is better known as “Mr. Pumpkin” in Sycamore, Ill., where he originated the 
Pumpkin festival. He attended his 50th annual festival this past October 2011. 

A private memorial was held in Slidell Feb. 4.

In lieu of flowers, the family would all like donations for the scholarship 
fund to Sycamore High School seniors to help further their education.
